Bradford Factor

Does sicknesses of 4 or more consequative weeks count towards your Bradford Factor score? I was under the impression that long term sick of 4+ weeks does not count, but would like to double check if anyone knows the answer.

It does count, but if it was a one off and you were signed off by a doctor then it is unlikely there will be any disciplinary.

Repeated instances are considered more disruptive so it would be worse to take 5 separate days that one whole week.

If you have four consecutive weeks as well as other occurrences it is likely you will need to meet with HR.

Hi, Kandima. Can I ask your knowledge in this please. I was sick last February 5 Days then last November 2018 for 4 days. This is unrelated operation.

yes it does but its a lot less than lots of separate occasions. You'd need to check your company's policy on Bradford Factor and sickness as to what requires further action.

If you have a disability and its disability related that would be treated differently to say a sprained ankle. Also maternity related would be treated differently so no simple answer without more info!

It's miscarriage related

I am so sorry for your loss Monday. My knowledge is from my own management experience and would depend whether you were signed off by a doctor and what stage in your pregnancy it happened.

Thank you. It happen in the first semester, heart beat at 6 weeks and then none at 8 weeks. Surgical removal of pregnancy. I'm feel that maybe I could go back now, just in a little pain but on antibiotics for an infection. I also feel that maybe I need to mentally come to terms with what's happen, feeling emotional at times. I think because the heart beat raised our hopes and we got so excited about It. I've had miscarriages previously and feel inadequate, so was hoping to take a few weeks to get over it.

I'm sorry for your loss.

As a HR person, I'd be very surprised if there was any action arising from your recent miscarriage. I'd be offering tea and sympathy not a disciplinary! Do you have high sickness previous to this that is prompting your concern?

Thank you naturistmum. No I take my job seriously and depend on it to support my family and pay the mortgage. So I try to only have off what is absolutely necessary. My commute to work is 1 hr 15minutes each way so it makes it more difficult when not well, as I wouldnt want to fall ill on the train or walk to the office. Over the past 12 months I've had two sicknesses so have a Bradford score of 36. It's the first year I've been on the Bradford score chart and I think that's why I'm worried. Sorry for the long thread.

Where I work anything pregnancy/miscarriage related doesn’t count. I had a couple of days to a week off every week for 6 weeks and nothing came out of it when I had a miscarriage. Knowing how the Bradford score works now I’m a manager I’d have been totally on absence management of it had!

Thanks amgine and sorry for your loss too

Anything pregnancy related including miscarriage should not be counted as sickness absence and therefore can’t be used in Bradford Factor calculations
