How can I improve my posture

I have absolutely terrible posture and I'm sure I'm going to end up with a hunchback.

How can I improve it, I try and sit up straight but I forget all the time. My back also starts really aching if I try it.

Has anyone been able to completely change their posture

Thank you

I'd recommend going to a good Pilates class.

My posture improved noticeably with Pilates (but there's still room for improvement).

Yes, Pilates and yoga.

You need to strengthen your core muscles to keep you upright and stop you slumping.

I have to consciously think about it still and I expect I always will.

Go to a good physiotherapist. You might need to wear a brace at the beginning. I find a tight sports bra makes me conscious of my alignment all day and I hold my shoulders back more in response. You might find orthotics in your shoes will help too but as I say get some professional help.
Pain killers for a few weeks while you get back to where you should be possibly? It will be worth it. I have an elderly aunt and 90% of her problems in old age are due to her terrible round shoulders and posture that she started with in her 30's. I have often wondered why she didn't address it then. My Cousin, her daughter, has the same posture and wears a brace as a reminder.

Alexander technique is supposed to be good. I heard that you Imagine you have a hook in the top of your head, like a old medical school skeleton, and (as often as you can remember) stend or sit as though you're hanging from the hook. It lengthens the spine, tucks yyour chin in etc to lose some of the more extreme curves.

Pilates would be a good start.

Strengthening your core muscles using weights.

Depending on what your posture is like, stretch any tight muscles. So for example, if you are hunched over a lot looking at a computer screen or driving your chest muscles will be shortening and tightening so they need to be stretched.
