How did you celebrate your 50th?

Just looking for ideas for my birthday later this year. I'm not a big party person, but I do feel I want to mark the occasion. At the moment I'm thinking of a night in a local pub with around 50 people. I'm pretty laid back and casual. Birthday is in October so hard to have an outdoors element. DH and the kids and I will do something special too.

Just wondered what others have done, if anything.

TIA

I went to Las Vegas to see a rock band Grin

My 50th was the worst birthday of my life as I sat in hospital with my Dad as he passed away Sad

OTOH my 60th made up for it as the kids organised a surprise family barbecue and I saw people I hadn't seen for years. That was a good day and one I shall remember.

The birthday days themselves will prob just be a naice dinner either at home or out, poss with our good friends.

Had lunch with close family at a nice pub

StillMedusa · 22/01/2019 22:30

I had a meal out with my family.

Then I went round the USA and Canada with my DD2 for 8 weeks!!!! ( she was going solo and DH suggested I went with her as I'd always wanted to do that...so I did!)

In bed with shingles. I managed to haul myself into the bath for an hour then went back to bed. Dh had taken the day off to take me out to lunch, but that didn't happen as I felt so awful.

Went to Paris for a long weekend with dh.

It was fabulous, marquee on front garden, live band, hog roast, big bouncy castle type slide on back garden, all neighbours and friends from work came.

pupsiecola the train was bound for Brussels which I was happy about but then we got another train and ended up in Bruges at the most amazing hotel in the centre of town with a pool and spa carved into the bedrock in the basement. And to top it all he’d arranged for my best friend who lives in Holland to travel over and spend a few days with us!

Mine ended very badly but the rest of the day was lovely, with DH taking me to buy a rotary watch then lunch in a village near where we live. I also had a spa day with friends but that was over a month afterwards as I was ill when we were supposed to go.

I'm 50 this year and not planning anything - probably have close family coming round for cup of tea and slice of birthday cake. Boyfriend and I are doing a 100km bike ride the day before my actual birthday! My idea of hell would be a party - don't have enough friends to make it work and I really don't enjoy eating out enough to fork out for a meal in a posh place.

If really pushed, what I would really like to do is go away for a short break with my 3 (adult) children and my lovely boyfriend down to Cornwall or somewhere similar and go walking/surfing/anything active. But I am skint and need to save up to a) move house and b) follow my youngest child around the world representing England in their chosen sport over the next few years which, in my opinion, will be way more fun than spending a small fortune celebrating one birthday Grin
