Dd1(13) was complaining of an itchy head last Wednesday so I checked and sure enough nits so I treated her with Hedrin and then combed the bodies out with a nitty gritty comb afterwards.
She is due her second treatment tomorrow but was complaining of itching so I've just nitty grittyed her again just combed out over a hundred tiny nits.
Now do I treat her with hedrin tonight or wait til tomorrow when the seven days are up?
I've combed and combed and can't find anymore but the little buggers could still be in thereAngry

I honestly don't think the nit treatments are very effective. I'd wait tomorrow so it's the 7 days, but really concentrate on the combing with the nitty gritty every few days until she's clear completely. Going forward buy some tea tree oil and put a couple drops in your DC's shampoo/conditioner. Or buy a leave-in conditioner and put a couple drops in that...even better. Check hair every week.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 22/01/2019 18:44

Dump the chemicals!

Add tea tree oil to shampoo and conditioner. Nitty gritty with the conditioner on until the comb is clear. Rinse. Then... and this is the magic bit.... rinse a handful of malt vinegar through the hair. Rinse well. The nits will be gone!

shecamefromgreece · 22/01/2019 18:54

I've actually got a tea tree repellent spray which I use on my three younger children but stopped using in eldest as I thought we were past all this with her, obviously I was wrong!
Will definitely keep combing fortunately no one else has them just need to check myself when I've washed my hair later.

The nit treatment you leave on all night is good. The mousse and quick treatments not so much.
Comb thoroughly (following instructions) every three days for 21 days.

shecamefromgreece · 22/01/2019 19:05

Yes it was a quick treatment I used. I'm not sure it was that effective as there were so many tonight.
Every time I combed a bit of hair there were about five or six tiny ones.
Maybe I should get something else?

You need the one that kills the eggs as well - some don’t - it should say on the packet

Apply - comb -wash out - comb

Comb every 3 days as the eggs hatch and the babies are only big enough at 3 days old to be caught - they can’t lay eggs until 8:10 days old

shecamefromgreece · 22/01/2019 19:21

Right greentulips that make sense that why there are so many of them. I thought they took seven days to hatch.
I need to be more on the ball with the combing.

I recommend using this routine: www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/theliceprogram/theprogram.html

It's what I use when mine catch them and it's worked well for us. I do tend to do a dry comb on the 'rest' days, just because whenever we get them I'm pretty much itchy until they're gone and out of mind again.

mummmy2017 · 22/01/2019 19:29

I never did anything except use the comb.
Tried everything else, but found it never worked, we still use are comb as great for dandruff removal.

SharkSave · 22/01/2019 19:40

Run some straighteners through her hair too. Frazzles the eggs!
