When is a toddler classed as walking?

Ds is 21 months old in 2 days time.

Hes been very slow with his gross motor skills and he is under a paediatrician. We have out first physio appointment on Thursday.

Just after turning 20 months he took his first steps. He can do 10-20 steps ish unaided. Its probably twice a day he will do this, and the rest of the time he will drop straight down to crawl.

Paed has said he is not classed as walking until he is walking around unaided most of the time.

If your child could do 10-20 steps would you say they were walking?

No I wouldn't class that as walking.

Probably not OP, I was in a similar boat - DD did not take her first steps until she was 19 months old but still bum shuffled regularly until about 2.

When they are not crawling regularly is when they are officially walking.

Fwiw OP, DD is 20 now and can walk perfectly fine and has done very well in sport, do not panic yet. She had the same walking ability has her peers when she started reception.

When walking is their usual way of getting around.

Im so desperate for him to walk. Hes so heavy for me to be carrying around etc.

Everytime i see him do afew steps i think, is this it? Is he finally going to be walking? Etc

I’d say he can walk. But not that he was walking. Do you have a good carrier to help with the weight. It might give him more chances to walk outside too. Doe she walk holdin hands.

I dont have have a carrier plus its from the car into nursery and back again etc that i struggle with.

He will walk holding hands but after 40 steps or so he will start to lean on you.
