Cordial-drinks with ONLY sugar

Hi,

I’d like to buy a bottle of Ribena, or anything similar, without sweetener.

We don’t drink much of it, the bottle I’ve just finished was bought a long time before the sugar tax. It’s just for every now and again in the winter it’s nice to have a warm Ribema.

I’ve got a bottle of Rose’s Lime Juice Cordial which has only sugar but I’m looking for something more red fruity! Although I’m now a bit worried that when I go to replace that I’ll be met with the same thing!

I went to replace my Ribena this morning to find that although the bottle looks the same as ever, there are sweeteners in it.

I can’t have seeeteners, they give me stmoacge ache and UTIs! I just want a little bit of sugar!

Ta Wink

Ah, haven’t tried belvoir, I didn’t know they did a blackcurrent, will look out for it.

I'm with you all, would much rather have a little sugar than give my family awful artificial sweeteners.
When my first dc had her baby jabs, the pharmacist looked at me like I was bonkers because I asked if I could buy calpol with sugar rather than sweeteners in Blush

This is a massive bug bear of mine too. Sweetners cause me to spend hours on toilet.
I buy rocks juice and also found a powdered squash on Amazon which is delicious (a lemonade one and an orange).
I order fentimens rose lemonade and san pelligrino from Amazon for my gin :0)

No one in my family will touch artificial sweeteners so my go to brands for cordial are Sainsburys High Juice, Rocks and Belviour (which is too expensive).

And for anyone looking for sweetener free lemonade - at Christmas I went to tesco to get lemonade for my snowballs and couldn't find one single lemonade with chemical crap in it. I was distraught, then found out that Sainsbury's did a 'Classic Lemonade' which is sweetener free and it was spot on.

SO sainsbury's are the only supermarket allowing consumers to make the choice rather than forcing it on them.

Look in the adult cordials section - I buy belvoir sometimes, but my favourite in grenadine which is in the cocktails section (but not alcoholic)

You are stars, thank you so much.

I was out trawling my high street supermarkets for sugared cordial. You are right, Rose’s is still full-fat thank god.

We don’t do an online shop and rely on small supermarkets and a few local independents. None of the chain supermarkets have full-fat versions. I’ve got work to do so must stop prevaricating, but later I’m going to go to the health food shop and local grocer thing and try for Belvoir etc.

I would make my own but I’m really lazy. It sounds like a lovely wholesome thing to do with the kids-oh arse, I’m going to have to do it Grin I’ll do the watered down juice thing too.

I known about the tonic thing for years. Even before the sugar tax the manufacturers used to put junk in them. I like a little bit of gin every now and again and will only drink Fevertree. The other stuff makes me feel ill.

Yes, I don’t want to risk mine or the dcs health by drinking horrid chemicals either. I want sugar or nothing!

I did the same!

The smaller stores of supermarkets aren’t giving me any choice, there aren’t different sections for adult and kids drinks, just a row of cordial. We don’t have any big stores handy and don’t have a car.

I’m going to do some local shopping for local people and I bet I find the good stuff.

another one that says try the supermarket high juice ranges. you have to double check as they come in normal as well as no added sugar versions. they are nicer than normal squash as well as will be nicer warm like ribena than normal squash.

JellyBellies · 22/01/2019 14:57

Sainsburys sell Belvoir, at least the big ones do.

BHStowel · 22/01/2019 15:00

Bought this from the health food shop, as recommend. It has satisfied my craving and I’d be happy to let the kids have it. It’s different from Ribena but good, actually tastes of blackcurrants.

If I’m ever in a big supermarket I’ll buy a job lot of sugary squash to last a few years!

Cheers Wine (Ribena)

Waitrose do a sweetener-free lemonade as well. I'm another one who gets stomach issues with certain sweeteners, aside from the fact that they taste vile. Do those of us that can taste the sweeteners have unusually sensitive taste buds, or do other people actually like the taste?

Celebelly · 22/01/2019 15:26

I've just added Belvoir to my Tesco shop coming tonight thanks to this thread. Quite excited!

I've always wondered when people say they can't tell the difference between, say, full fat coke and Diet Coke. The minute I take a sip of Diet Coke, I can tell that it's diet. It's vile, it makes my mouth feel horrible and it doesn't quench my thirst. Quite the opposite –I get thirstier and thirstier if I drink stuff with artificial sweeteners. I'm actually a bit jealous of people who can't tell the difference because so much stuff has sweeteners in it now Sad It would be so much easier if I didn't notice.

BHStowel · 22/01/2019 15:49

Artificial sweeteners seem to have a diuretic effect on me - eww
