What bin do you have in the kitchen, if you have a dog

There is no room in a cupboard due to shelves. We have the bin on the counter but I would like a bin on the floor.
someone suggested putting bricks in the bottom of the bin so the dog doesnt manage to knock bin over.

We have taught pets they can't/shouldn't access the bin in the past but placing piles of empty tin cans on top. When the dog (or, in one case, cat for the compost bin on kitchen counter), tins fall down all around making a huge clatter, scaring dog and, usually, waking us. If you do this a few times, the dog learns not to go near the bin.

Worth a try? Of course, with a dog, I'd also avoid leaving any real food in the bin on the floor as training aside, they may simply never be able to help themselves! :)

OOh! Bling that's a good idea! A good use for beer cans... Smile

Brabantia touch bin here too with 3 galgos (greyhound cousins). They are old boys but I have never had any issue with them trying to raid this bin. Counter surfing on the other hand......................

We have two that hang one each on the inside of the cupboard doors to the cupboard under the sink (from Ikea I think). Dog hasn't realised they are there - and can't open the cupboard anyway (at least, he hasn't yet...)

I have this this bin from simple human it is 100% dog proof even when it contains several empty cat food packets.

We have the simplyhuman one too. Does the job. No need for the brand bags though. I get the 90ltr the top ones from the supermarket.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/01/2019 15:59

Ooh! Which supermarket, clara ? I hadn't thought about there being generic ones. We barely use one week so hadn't had to think about it much!

CuriousaboutSamphire. I’ve got in both Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. About £4 for 20.

A normal one. My dogs value their continued existence.

RB68 · 23/01/2019 22:20

We have a bench bin never tried her with other - but she leaves other ones alone unless they have food in or food wraps - so they generally go in food waste and the bench bin - its smaller needs emptying more regularly so I don't mind - hate big bins as even without food as such they get smelly

Our bin is also on the countertop, a tall slim Brabant is pushed right to the back. Cost about £12.
Dog has broken the lock on 2 simple human dog proof bins, opened the cupboards under the sink when the bin was there and has managed to get bags out of the wheelie bin as well. I keep the cast iron wellie rack on top of that now.
