Water for 5wk old

My 5wk old DS is constipated. I have been told to give him some cooled boiled water to help. But is this really ok for one so young?

In reality a very small amount of water is likely to do no harm at all. The danger would be perhaps a very sleepy newborn who is struggling to maintain the energy to feed at the breast for example, if their tummy was filled up with water then they could dangerously lose weight which would then undermine breastfeeding. Or people can get guidelines wrong. I also think it used to be more common to give babies different drinks. I certainly remember as a little girl feeding my dollies with "magic" emptying bottles of both milk and orange juice.

Well @jesstan2 the GP suggested water! Just a little bit in between feeds.

Pob13, if GP suggested a little water, I'm sure that's fine. All will be well soon.

As well as my child, I remember being given water in something my mum called a 'dinky bottle'. I also had juice. Times change.

A nice bottle of tea, eh? Builder's tea or Earl Grey I wonder :-).

My lo had constipated for months and hv said water makes it worse. As they get full with it.
Are you bf. Lo was on bottles so double checked them milk with was fine, soft belly massage and moving legs around to help. Double check with Hv
