Copper coil removal

Had a nightmare 7 months with it in. GP advised me to get it taken out in November, been trying to get somebody (anybody!) to remove it since then but there are just no clinic appointments available near me. Managed to get an appointment for this week by chance, except I've come on, and I'm bleeding ALOT.

I really don't want to cancel the appointment because I've waited so long to get this one, can I still get it taken out if I'm on? It's so heavy and I just don't think I can handle the embarrassment/mess. Is it gross should I just cancel it?

Has anyone got any experience of this? Or experience of coil removal in general? I'm really nervous, my experience over the last 7 months has been traumatic to say the least, I just can't cope with the pain and bleeding any longer.

I had mine taken out at the end of my period. Didn't bat an eyelid and said it was an ideal time as the cervix was open and accessible.

I would give them a call and tell them you will be x days into your period but they probably won't mind

i don't know about the period aspect, but i really struggled with having the copper coil put in, and honestly i didn't even feel it beig removed. hopefully it will be the same for you.

I should think it would make things easier, actually. The coil-fitters I work with prefer to fit your coil when you're on your period.

Didn't like mine so pulled it out after a couple of months. Took 2 seconds. Didn't feel a thing. But then I didn't feel it being put in or when having smears done nothing. If you can feel the string, mine wasn't trimmed, then it's easy enough to pull out, still got it somewhere 😂

I was in the same situation as you. Eight months in and was bleeding heavily. I attempted to go to the shops and as I got out of my car I flooded badly. Drove straight to the doctor’s in a complete mess and the nurse removed it right away.

I’ve had one removed whilst on, the dr said it was the best time to do it for the reasons pp have said. Coming out is much easier than insertion.

I had to be peeled off the ceiling when mine was inserted. When it was taken out it was almost a disappointment Grin

Thank you all!

That's reassuring. Yes mine really hurt being put in too! I have no babies so I suppose it was the first time I'd ever been 'stretched', the doctor said 'wow! You were very brave I thought you would shout!' 😂😂 I've been through the mill abit so I must have built up a good pain threshold.

Thanks again! X
