So, younger DD is nearly 2, and has some words she says clearly and sometimes we have no clue. Lately she has started saying 'To' could be two or too especially when up at night. We have no clue what she means.
She knows the words for milk/water/juice, cuddle, nappy so that's most reasons for night waking covered.
What could she want with 'to'?

If she has an older sibling, does she want to see them "too"?

e.g when talking to them both do you say things like "Do you want one too?" or "Are you coming too?"

HalfBloodPrincess · 21/01/2019 17:46

Do you say things like ‘I’m having a drink, would you like one too?’

My dd at a similar age used to call all food ‘nice’ because I’d ask if it was nice when she was eating her dinner, so when she asked for ‘nice’ I had to go through the whole cupboard to find what she wanted 🤣

KipperTheFrog · 21/01/2019 18:12

I don't notice myself using the word 'too' very often, but possible!
She has an older sister, they share a room so can see her any time.
halfblood that is so cute!

My DS' first three words were Mama, Dada, and Ama. We worked out he said Ama every time we went to eat and it was "some more" because we asked him "do you want some more" at every meal.

emeraldmoon · 21/01/2019 18:25

Could mean anything unfortunately 😂 when my ds was little he said ugg for drink and hehe for rabbit 🤦‍♀️ still now at almost 3 he'll say something I have no idea what he's saying such as draigin for penguin even though his speech is excellent the rest of the time!

KipperTheFrog · 21/01/2019 18:37

She obviously means something when she says to because she gets very frustrated at our lack of understanding!

@MelanieCheeks and @HalfBloodPrincess, you are AMAZING – I would never, ever have thought of that!

Granted, my DSS came into my life when he was 9 so I've never had a toddler (maybe these are normal superpowers you're both exhibiting?), but your interpretations (and the fact that you both hit the same conclusion at the same second!) just made my jaw hit the floor.

The Ama story reminds me of one my mother used to tell, from when she was teaching English to primary school children as a second language. She asked her class one day to tell her what their favourite food was, and was stumped when one boy told her it was 'Loboth'. She eventually realised that, when the dinner ladies asked the children what they wanted, many would say 'Lots of both' only, being in the East End of London, it would come out as 'Lo' o' both' - ie 'Loboth', which is what this lad heard and said.

Number 2 / poo / loo?

bookmum08 · 21/01/2019 19:03

Could it be tooth? Still teething at that age.

spiderlight · 21/01/2019 19:04

'Cold'?

cushioncuddle · 21/01/2019 19:07

Does her sister say ' me too' and she's using it as she things it should be.
Or it could be a made up word. They do this practicing sounds.

Whyareyouallabunchof · 21/01/2019 19:13

See if you can get her to take you to / show you what she wants next time she says it

Orangedaisy · 21/01/2019 19:13

I was going to say something about tooth-we had pooface for toothpaste recently so not dissimilar....

KipperTheFrog · 21/01/2019 19:38

Thanks for all the suggestions! Could be tooth, she has been showing some signs of teething today and she calls her toothbrush 'toobush'

Have you asked her older sibling to translate?
(Video her to show big sister if it only happens at night).

Is it something like:
"Love you"
"Love you, too"??
