Constantly tight muscles

The muscles in my calves, lower back and buttocks are so tight.

I'm always doing stretches to try and relieve them but nothing seems to work.

It's really hard trying to function when it's painful like this.

Are there any exercises or stretches that are brilliant for this kind of thing?

Fascial stretch therapy - it works to release the connective tissue running through the whole body and release muscle tension. I started seeing a sports therapist who specialised in it about six months ago and within two sessions I went from having constantly tense muscles and being unable to touch my toes to full flexibility.

It can be quite painful, but it’s completely worth it.

@ComtesseDeSpair that sounds like an amazing result. Would you mind telling me what you’ve had to do to maintain afterwards?

Not sure what stretching you're doing now but have a look on the link below and look for Glute stretch, Calf stretch & Hamstring stretch

@SushiMonster - my PT has incorporated a lot of strength and resistance training and flexibility exercises into my sessions: split squats, pulley stretches and floor exercises like planking and roller work. Basically, things that promote stretching everything out once the FST starts to release it. I’ve continued to see the FST every 6/8 weeks because I’m a long distance runner and so constantly battering my muscles, and it really helps.

@ComtesseDeSpair Thank you that is really helpful to hear. I have long-term flexibility issues and have been considering FST but wasn't sure if I woudl be able to go down to 'maintenance' + self stretch after the initial work.
