What can I do with unwanted charity collection bags?

What do you do with your charity clothes collection bags?

We have at least one, often more, pretty much every week. Any recyclable stuff we do have goes either to the local school’s collection, or the charity shop for a local charity, but that’s usually only about twice a year, if that.
We can’t use them as bin bags, as the council only collects rubbish in their official blue bags, of which we get 80 a year, they don’t fit any of our internal bins, and as far as I know there is no recycling scheme for thin plastic bags locally.
I tried putting up a notice asking for no more, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect.
I’ve just been chucking them in the basket by the door, where we keep the official bin bags and our reusable supermarket bags - today I tidied the basket and counted 86 charity bags, from over a dozen different charities.
Does anyone have any ideas, or do I just have to dump them in landfill?

Our council will take any bags in the wheelie bins so I use them as spare bin liners. But that’s no good to you.

Could you recycle them via a supermarket carrier bag recycling affair?

Would they take them? If so I can see if I can find one, neither of my closest supermarkets seem to do that, so is it greener to drive to a more distant one or dump the lot in landfill?

I use mine for any charity stuff. I tend to drop at local shops rather than the collections. None of the shops have ever complained that my offerings were in the 'wrong' bag.

I thought the bags usually instructed you to leave any unwanted
bags out on the designated collection day, so that the charity can re-use them?
If so, maybe you could group them by charity and leave them out when those charities are collecting them again?

I used to leave unused bags out to be collected, but they never were.
I've used some as a bag for my kitchen bin and others as useful bags to take stuff to charity shops.

I do this ^^ as well. I have been clearing out a load of stuff recently, and they have been very useful. I prefer to donate directly to charities as they get the full benefit. The charity collections only donate a small percentage to the charity on the bag. Although, you can't beat them for sheer convenience.

Both the charities I give to have their own bags, and I’ve tried the leaving out thing, but they never seem to get picked up - maybe the people picking up only look out for full bags!
I will try again, though.

I use them to line small bins around the house, donate to any charity shops and to line the cat litter tray ( used double as they are perforated)
I get a ridiculous amount and when I used to put them out for collection they never were. I prefer to put the charity stuff in the big bins in car parks now as it is easier.

I've only ever put one out once and it wasn't collected, unused ones never get picked up either, I save them and use them for charity shop runs. You can also recycle them at our local Sainsburys, I take all that sort of plastic wrapping there including the outer envelopes these bags come in.
