Baby breathing difficulties

My 22 week old little boy generally wakes every 2-3 hours, more like every 2. He has a bottle of formula at bed time but otherwise is breastfed. He didn't finish an 8oz bottle tonight.

He has slept from 8-12 then woke to breastfeed albeit very briefly he fell asleep on the boob. I put him back down asleep in travel cot (at mums) and he then started making little raspy breathing noises, like a tiny grunt at the end of each breath and looked like he "stopped" breathing in between.

I picked him up and unswaddled and he immediately breathed a little deeper (swaddle looser than normal). I undid his vest and looked at his chest, not sucking under ribs and shallowness stopped but fast asleep, unusual for him!

Back in cot fast asleep breathing silently (more worry)! I daren't go to sleep. Should I be worried?

I'd call 111 for advice, now not tomorrow morning

Call NHS 111. There’s no other advice really. It’ll put your mind at rest.

Grunting while breathing is a BIG red flag for infants. Def get proper medical advice tonight and dont leave him alone until you do. If your instincts says he is just not right, then consider A and E and a childrens department if possible.

I'm be heading to A&E.
Right away.

111 is good for queries, but this baby needs to be seen by a doctor pronto.

Just wanted to back up SeaToSki that grunting is a red flag. Hopefully you've taken little one to get checked out!

Thanks all, checked and he's fine just a tired mummy!
