Any US MNers around? Quick question

DD 13 is on a school exchange in the US. She's got a dental abscess. A friend of the family over there is a dentist and saw her for free but prescribed her antibiotics she needs to pick up from the pharmacy tomorrow.

Any idea how much this is likely to cost? The script not the dentist. We have travel insurance but i'm not sure they will pay as she saw the dentist on a freebie

Google says something like amoxillan cost about $12.99 without insurance. Ask what prescription she has and you can Google and get a better idea

GoodRX is an app people use to shop around for the cheapest place to get their prescriptions and might give you an idea of price. I would not expect to pay more than $20 out of pocket.

HIGHLY Likely to be very inexpensive. Unless it is brand name only, and even that she can tell the pharmacist that she is ok with a generic substitution. I often pay privately for my antibiotics as its more expensive to pay the $20 insurance copay. Tell DD to keep the receipt and the bag and leaflet the prescription comes with, ask your dentist friend to write a letter explaining what her diagnosis was and what the treatment is (on headed paper if possible) and then submit to your travel insurance when she gets home. They will probably pay you back.

Excess is £75 so if its going to be less than that I won't bother.

I asked her what the script was and she text back 'IDK'

Teen for 'i don't know and i'm not getting up to look'

Not likely to be outrageous, I second the suggestion to ask for a generic antibiotic rather than a branded one. Surely, the family she’s staying with could have told you this? In the highly unlikely event it costs more than your deductible, there’s no reason your travel insurance won’t pay out for a valid prescription even if she wasn’t charged by the dentist, just tell her to keep the receipt.

Shouldn't be too much. Mind, I needed some antibiotic cream once and it was nearly two hundred ducking dollars.

Pretty sure amoxicillin is between $10-$20 though.
