Management Level - Where Do You Job Search

I'm trying to find a new manager for my small business. It's quite an interesting, varied and fun position. But I just can't get any decent applicants. I've advertised (paid) on social media, our local paper's website, Indeed and LinkedIn. No joy. Only applicants with absolutely zero experience and who clearly haven't read the job description.

The hours are flexible within school hours, so would suit a mum - although they would need to work in the school holidays too.

Any suggestions would be brilliant! Thank you! X

Where is this based? & have you tried searching people with the skills you desire on linked in & emailing them yourself/from your company? Also, total jobs?

Wishing you luck :)

I would say papers is a waste of money

Does your job advert have the salary details included? Perhaps It’s not competitive enough to get the candidates you are after? I’ve uaed Indeed a lot to recruit and yes there’s a lot of useless applications but I’ve found good candidates amongst them when recruiting for a manager.

I look on Indeed but the filters are rubbish.
Guardian jobs online.
On Twitter #localtownhour e.g. #watfordhour

Thanks! Last time I personally looked for jobs online was over 20 years ago as I then stayed in the same industry for ages and was approached rather than having to search. So I'm a bit out of touch.

I haven't tried searching for people on LinkedIn as I felt a bit poachy! But might have a little stalk...!

I am in the South East near Brighton. The salary is competitive.

With Indeed it felt like it was almost too easy for applicants and that people were just firing off their CV willy nilly with no cover letter and not having looked at the job specs. I was paying per click or per applicant and just pissing money away.

I shall look at Guardian Jobs.

Thank you.

The Guardian is £750 for the most basic ad. Quite a lot as there are no guarantees....

Try advertising on this fb group. Lots of experienced parents looking for flexible jobs.

Indeed can be ok but it's worth setting some filter questions, e.g. we have ones asking if they have x years experience in Y area which are mandatory.

Also get adept at serious skim reading! it takes me maybe 20 seconds to assess a CV to see if it's vaguely relevant.

I would say that if it's flexible and can be school hours then make this very very obvious. We advertised an admin role with that situation and the number of incredibly qualified applicants was crazy, we ended up with someone with an MBA.

Tailfeather · 20/01/2019 23:30

Thanks @Ivytheterrible - that looks really useful.

I've had to recruit a lot in previous roles for entry level and manager level positions. The only decent results I ever got was with agencies. But you pay £££ in placement fees.

Benefit is that you can negotiate a free placement or %refund if the candidate doesn't work out and they leave or you fire them within x weeks.

Tailfeather · 20/01/2019 23:31

@StatisticallyChallenged I'll try making the hours more obvious.
