What time does your YR7, 11/12 year old go to bed on a school night?

My DD is YR7 and one of the youngest in the year at 11.

She goes to bed at 9 and reads until 9.15. Except she's still fannying about at 10 going to the toilet, saying she's not tired etc

I think this is far to late, so I'm thinking of bringing her bedtime forward to 8.30 but I know that won't go down well!

What time do your YR7's go please.

Y8 DD 8.45 lights out by 9pm

In Y7 was 15 minutes earlier

She needs a lot of sleep. Can't get her up before 7.15am & she needs to be out of the house by 7.45am

No electronics after 7pm, bath or shower at 8. I say good night at 8.30 and he generally reads, listens to music or an audio book until he falls asleep around 9/9.15.
He is always asleep by the time I go to bed at 10.
He generally wakes at 6. A later bedtime makes no difference to that.

8pm. Reads til 8.30. I am aware that my kids have very early bed times. It seems to suit them!

In bed by 8.45, lights out by 9.30 latest. Up at 7.15am

SheldonTheWonderShlong · 20/01/2019 22:53

Oh and meant to say that there is the odd night when she'll resurface as late as 10.30pm with a worry or a sore foot or be 'starving' and we 'attend to her needs' so to speak as it's not often. I would say she's generally asleep by 10pm though. No phone/tablet in room either

imip · 20/01/2019 22:58

Dd12 in y7 goes upstairs to her room around 8:30 - 9. She piss farts around, does homework, draws, reads. Usually asleep by 9:30-10. I’d prefer her to sleep sooner, but she does well at school, generally well-behaved, so I guess it’s ok.

sansou · 20/01/2019 23:00

YR7 Between 8:30 - 9pm.
YR10 Between 9:30 - 10pm.

We all get up at 6:30 and out the door by 7:15 for school bus/work and fairly good at self regulating - they go to bed earlier if they're tired.

Hoppahouse · 20/01/2019 23:02

Dd was always late to sleep - awake until 10.30/11 in y7 and she still is. Y7 Ds on the other hand goes up around 8.30/9 and is asleep soon after that.

theliverpoolone · 20/01/2019 23:18

My dd is also one of the youngest in Yr7. We aim for lights out at 9pm, and she's usually asleep pretty quickly. Hard to wake up at 7am though, but would resist an earlier bedtime as she's not usually feeling tired any earlier. I do let her sleep in till 8.30ish (sometimes later) at the weekend, and also stay up later on a Saturday.

rippednips · 20/01/2019 23:20

Does the no screen rule an hour before bedtime mean tablet/phone and TV? We have no tablet/phone from 7pm but can sometimes watch TV up until bedtime (9pm) but more often reads. Just wondering if TV is included in most people’s no screen rules? Thank you!

imip · 20/01/2019 23:22

No screens here from around 7 - dinner time. May be occasional allowances GBBO for eg.

Blinkingblimey · 20/01/2019 23:24

yr 7 ds - weeknights lights out between 8:30 and 9, up at 6:40.

mrsfollowill · 20/01/2019 23:37

My DS was in bed at 9.00pm at that age- no screens from 7 - bath at 8.00pm then TV downstairs for 30 mins- then bed- no tech in room (no TV in there either!!) Up at 7.15 for school. Now Year 12 so 17 soon- twice a week leaves the house at 7.20am so in bed 10.00pm up 6.35am (voluntarily- self regulating at this age!) - rest of week 10.30ish up at 7.15 - natural night owl - so 12- 1:00 am weekends and holidays and can sleep until lunch time but has made the link himself between feeling like crap if he stays up too late :-)

MiddleoftheRoad · 20/01/2019 23:40

My DTs (12) 9.30-10

There's no ban on screens of an evening and I can't fault their school work/homework.

Spotsbeforemyeyes · 20/01/2019 23:40

Yr 7, 11 yes DD, she'll be 12 in May. We go up at 8.30 as she shares with her 7 yr old sister and neither like going to bed alone.
DD (11) reads until 9 ish. She gets up at 6.30am for school, catches a bus at 7.15am.
Fridays and Saturdays it's 9.30 but she's asleep in a matter of minutes on those days

PerverseConverse · 20/01/2019 23:48

8pm but she faffs about and reads for a while so is asleep around 9. She's up at 6.40 and needs her sleep. Any less and she's pale and feeling ill. She's been an early to bed early to rise person since she was born. Dd2 total opposite.
