Cleaning services- is this a reasonable price?

So we have just moved to a 4 bedroom house. It's me, DP and 2 DC living here and we have decided to look into getting a cleaner (never used one before).

The first company I've approached have quoted £70 for a weekly clean- full clean of kitchen, 3 bathrooms(one is just a toilet, another is a small ensuite with shower cubicle), living room and Hoover the stairs/carpet. Nothing in the other rooms.

Is this reasonable? What would/do you pay/charge? We are in the south of England but not particularly near London

That sounds a good deal to me.

WorriedMum11 · 20/01/2019 21:39

How many hours? That's expensive. I'm not South though and pay £15 an hour in East Mids to my cleanser who does all that and mops kitchen and hallway too.

She usually does it in 2.5 hours - she knows the house now but did take longer initially

MichelleM30 · 20/01/2019 21:39

Seems rather expensive. Is the going rate not usually around £10-12 per hour, dependant where you are. Even saying it's £15 where you are. Do you think it would take nearly 5 hours for what you have asked?

I’m also in the south and pay £13 per hour.
£9.50 per hour direct to the cleaner and then a monthly charge to the cleaning company. Averages out at £13 ph and I only have 2 hours a fortnight.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 20/01/2019 21:44

That's a lot. Where we are in London you can get a good cleaner for £11-13 an hour. What you're describing, especially without bedrooms etc, should take 4 hours max, even if done carefully.
Check if this is the weekly price - some places charge more for a first clean, in order to do a deep clean and get used to the place.

Pyracantha1 · 20/01/2019 21:51

In central London I pay £10-£12ph. £12 would be the absolute top end.

Firstty · 20/01/2019 21:52

Oh good. I'm glad it's not me thinking it's a bit steep! They haven't said how many hours they expected it to take. I think they do give a high end service (uniformed cleaners, special arrangements for key storage, eco-friendly non-toxic products, cleaners working in pairs) so it may be worth it for people with more disposable income than us.

Feel like I’m paying too much now, particularly as I have a provide all my own products.

ilovewinterpansies · 20/01/2019 21:58

I pay £40 for the same clean (plus sheet changes). £70 is extortionate. I live in zone 4 London.

Chewbecca · 20/01/2019 22:00

£12 ph in Essex for 3 hours. 4 hours would be good but too extravagant I think.

Daffodil2018 · 20/01/2019 22:03

I think that’s too steep. We have a two bed/one bathroom house in London zone 2 and our cleaner does the whole lot in 3.5 hours for £36.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 20/01/2019 22:07

@Jeffers3 most people are paying cash in hand, you've in theory got coverage and insurance via the agency, so that is extra. It's also about speed - we pay our cleaner £13 an hour, but she's so fast that she does a better.job in 3 hours than a previous £10 cleaner did in 4, so we don't mind.

WorriedMum11 · 20/01/2019 23:20

My cleaner is fast I know she's dear at £15 but she's reliable - quick - really good - uses her own products too

penelopepig · 20/01/2019 23:34

Ours is £12 ph, fully insured, keysafe service, uniformed etc but we are in Yorkshire

TheDragonFromDreams · 03/09/2019 23:50

Anyone in London care to recommend their cleaner/company? Cannot find anyone good... Sad
