18 inch wheel bike with stabilisers?

I have a very, very tall DS who is 6 and has various balance and coordination issues.

He currently has a 14 inch bike with stabilisers but it's far too small for him. I think based on his height he needs an 18 inch bike but I'm struggling to find any with stabilisers. It's probably going to be a while before he can ride without them. Google has not been my friend. Does anyone know of any?

Can you not buy the stabilisers seperatley?

Balance bike for an older child? I think you can get them in a 16 inch.

The Strider Youth 16 is for age 6-12.

Thanks but he struggles with a balance bike. He likes to pedal.

Hi - my DS also has various co-ordination and balance issues. We got him a Frog 52 when he was 7and the shop put stabilsers on. In hindsight I wish we had bitten the bullet and gone without stabilsers. With stabilsers they don't learn to balance which they will need to do eventually. This summer ( when he was 9)took the stabilsers off and spent alot of time in the park and eventually he got there. Was an amazing moment.

It's a tricky age, we found there were plenty of universal stabilisers to fit up to 20 inch bikes (try amazon) but looking into it more some didn't seem like they would take the weight of an older child. A tall 6 year old is probably quite a bit lighter than my 10 year old though. Adult stabilisers are also available although do cost quite a bit more. However, they start at 20 inch. If you want to try a trike it's worth trying to find a disability cycling club, our local one has quite a range of different bikes to try out.

In the end ds was getting old enough to not want to ride with stabilisers so we opted to try the balance bike and an exercise bike to help him learn to pedal. The bigger micro scooter was also really helpful for helping him with his balance. Many many hours of practice later he managed to put it all together and can now ride his bike.

DD is NT but can't yet ride a bike (9yo). She has a 20inch wheel bike and we are just going to do it without stabilisers. We've already had a go and it will take a while but I run alongside to grab the bike before it falls to the ground. I bought a second hand bike for this reason as it's already got scrapes on it (and have promised DD a new bike when she can ride it).

I'm not so sure stabilisers help as you still need to take them off at some point. DD could easily ride her smaller bike with stabilisers but it hasn't hugely helped her now she finally has a bigger bike (and we live somewhere she can learn)

We are considering taking the pedals off so she can scoot along like a balance bike, get her balance on it (apparently you should be able to lift your feet up and shout 'weeee'), then put the pedals back on. Depends how she gets on with the pedals.

Go to a bike shop with a workshop. They should be able to advise you which type of bike you need - not all are suitable for stabilisers - and make you some for it.
