My DD has gone to Australia on a 4 year contract.
We are meeting her for a 2 wk holiday at Easter,
Flying to Singapore for 2 nights
and 10 nights in Bali
Never been and know nothing about either.
Any tips , things to do, places to stay please.

Unless you are a surfer, more time in Singapore, less time in Bali! (Don't listen to me - I went to Bali a number of years ago and wasn't impressed. It's not called Bali belly for nothing!)

Singapore - Raffles, Marina Bay, the night zoo, Orchard Road....
Bali - went to a Balinese funeral - interesting..

Agree with PP - up your time in Singapore. It's a fabulous city.

Raglansleeve · 20/01/2019 13:10

Singapore - Street food, botanical gardens, Sentosa, Changing (heartbreaking but really worthwhile).

Bali - skip Kuta, it’s horrible. I love the interior, especially Ubud, the rice terraces, temples. If you’re into galleries, check out the Donald Friend stuff.

Changi, not changing.

If he's going to Bali and likes scuba/snorkeling then he could try the Gili Islands. It's over 10 years since we went and it was amazing then, although I hear they have become slightly more built up since then.

Singapore- eat at the hawker markets .... amazing ....

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 20/01/2019 13:22

Isn’t Bali like the Australian version of Ayia Napa? How do you avoid all the partying Aussie twenty somethings ?

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 20/01/2019 13:23

I really fancy Singapore. Singapore is on my list, but I’ll be doing Singapore & HK.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 20/01/2019 13:27

Agree with more time in Singapore (used to live there) but also, if budget allows, and you’re only in Singapore briefly, staying in Marina Bay Sands hotel is worth it.

Alarae · 20/01/2019 13:28

For a bit of fun try Waterbom water park! The water shutes are amazing.

In Singapore get yourself to a hawker centre for dinner, east coast hawker centre is huge and such an experience, so much variety of local food cook fresh and eaten out in the open.

The night safari is a good way to enjoy the zoo and something a bit different, although if you want to see the pandas I believe you have to go to the river safari part of the zoo which is a different thing.

Go for a Singapore sling at Raffles hotel and enjoy the live music playing.

Take yourself up to the top of marina bay sands, or book into the hotel if you’re feeling a bit flash!

I actually recommend the open top bus tour, Singapore is pretty small and you can get a lot done in a day, take a walk round the botanic gardens, china town, little India..... You can also take them to the huge, good luck fountain at the mall where the bus tours start.

Try and spot all the merlions.

I’ve forgotten what else we used to do with visitors!

Singapore is expensive in bars and restaurants like 15 dollars for a drink. The shopping centres have amazing food stalls for during the day. The food markets are great for the evening about a fifth of the price and amazing food.

The Bay gardens are amazing! Best zoo in the world.

Bali avoid Kuta areas inthe south is like Oz magaluf but its a big Island. Ubud is lovely and places further North also the polar opposite to the south. Definitely don't have to surf you can go up volcanos, walk around paddy fields, visit coffee plantations, see loads of temples etc.

Stinkytoe · 20/01/2019 13:31

Forgot Gardens by the Bay with the sky trees and cloud/ flower domes and Unicersal Studios I’d you’re in anyway interested in theme parks. The cable car over to sentosa is fun.

great thanks for all the suggestions so far.
keep them coming
we are thinking of staying at Semyank in a villa with butler and driver.

I went to the Gillies a few years ago and found them depressing. So much drug addiction and misery and the environmental degradation is sad to see.
