Your monthly outgoings?

tired1245 · 20/01/2019 08:53

I know everybody's are different, but me and my partner will be purchasing our first home together within the next few months.. not asking for how much you spend out, but just what you pay out on? eg. Mortgage, council tax ect. Just want to make sure I've got everything down that will be included in our monthly out goings. Thankyou Grin

Mortgage £273 (we pay £500 though Halo)
Council tax is about £130
Gas and electric £163

TinyBarista · 20/01/2019 08:58

Don't forget TV licence. Insurances. Utilities - gas, electric, water, broadband, mobile phones. Always better to over budget than under estimate. Also try to include a small amount for 'automatic' / regular savings as this will be a great habit to start off early.

Itstimetoscream · 20/01/2019 08:58

Mortgage 670
Council tax 83
Water 42
Gas/electricity 90

TinyBarista · 20/01/2019 08:59

Life insurance?

TinyBarista · 20/01/2019 09:08

Have you got electric on the list? Sorry if I'm missing it! And HollyBollyBooBoo raises good points too.
Your first home is such an exciting time. Are you budgeting separately for decorating, furniture etc. Remember there's no need to have it all at once and once you've got the basics you can then decide what's most important to spend your money on whether now/later date.

Nacreous · 20/01/2019 09:10

Monthly outgoings here:
Essential:
Mortgage
Gas and electric
Council tax (often upwards of £100pcm)
Internet
Home insurance
Car tax
Car insurance

Important to me:
Mobile
TV licence
Life insurance
Break down cover

Me being profligate:
Gym membership
Netflix

Consider also whether you guys have:

Spotify
Amazon prime
Any other subscriptions?
Travel insurance
Mobile phone insurance?
Ground rent

If you are buying an old house, consider putting a monthly sum aside for repairs. I do the same for appliances, car repairs and holidays and it all lives in a short term savings pot.

Some of those (e.g. car insurance) go out annually, but I budget for them monthly.

I also have a regular savings account that encourages me to make sure I save monthly: when I'd first bought a house sometimes it got emptied again as I realised I needed a new shower or whatever, but "paying myself first" is a habit I've kept and it means my savings are always my first priority after essential bills.

Nacreous · 20/01/2019 09:10

Ooh and I've missed water!

TyrionsNextWife · 20/01/2019 09:10

I have all the usual bills and utilities plus a standing order into my savings accounts that’s treated like an essential bill - I own an old house so need money set aside for repairs and maintenance.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 20/01/2019 09:26

Gas and electric aren't on your list @tired1245.

Vets - wormer/flea treatment
Do you do car recovery (AA/RAC)?

I'm probably a bit OTT in my budget but things like gas boiler service - £60. Car wash £7 a month, window cleaning £5 a month.

All adds up and makes you realise what your truly have spare and can therefore afford to spend!

LaurieFairyCake · 20/01/2019 09:31

Our monthly direct debits are almost £4K (only 2k is the mortgage). The next biggest expense is doggy daycare at £400 then commuting at £300.

Live in London so car insurance is more expensive.

Youmadorwhat · 20/01/2019 09:32

Monthly payments:
Mortgage
Mobile phone bill x2
Life insurance policy x2
Childcare

Other bills:
Electric (bill is quarterly here)
Heating oil (as and when we need)
Car Tax and insurance x2 (yearly payments)

No council tax or water charges here.

Don’t have
Broadband/home phone (not needed because of mobile packages)
Tv Licence (don’t watch tv)
Refuse charges (we compost and bring our recycling to the recycling center asvand when)

Adversecamber22 · 20/01/2019 09:40

Gas
Electric
Council tax
Water rates
Broadband, tv and phone package
Netflix
Car insurance x 2
Petrol
Life insurance
Pet insurance
Groceries
Mobile phone x 3
Car recovery
Magazine subs
DS cadet subs
Travel insurance
Amazon prime
Go out to dinner every couple weeks
Lunch out every week
Take away every other week
The expense of a teenager!

We have paid off our mortgage and also save every month. I know there are lots of non essentials but we are at a very different stage of our lives.

lumpsofitroundtheback · 20/01/2019 09:47

If you are buying a flat it might be leasehold, in which case you need to budget for annual service charges etc.
