Where's the padlock key?

We can't open the padlock on a gate to part of our garden. The three matching keys on the same split ring which I thought were the correct ones don't fit, although they are branded SIL, like the padlock. I've been through all the keys in both places we keep them.

I've also looked in a box of bits, but there was nothing there. I need to go through DP's toolbox and some drawers with bits and pieces in.

The really annoying thing is that we had to cut the chain off to fit our own lock as the people we bought from couldn't find the keys!

In the glove box of your car?

No not there. I'm convinced the three keys on the same ring are for the padlock, but none of them will go into the lock. I put some wd40 on it yesterday in the hope that if anything was stick it would free it. Will try again. DP wants to back his trailer in to load up stuff for the tip.

Wd40? Full blast might dislodge any crap stuck in there

abbsisspartacus · 20/01/2019 10:33

Fuck sake just seen you tried that! Compressed air?

wowfudge · 20/01/2019 10:36

I thought you were querying me using wd40 - like it was a bad idea!

Managed to get the keys I thought were the correct ones into the lock 24 hours after the first lot of WD40 was sprayed into the lock, but it won't turn. I've WD40'd it to death through the two little holes designed to let water out and either side of the hasp. Fingers crossed it will open later.

Look at the bottom of the lock is there a tiny hole ( about the size of pin would make) near the hole you put the key if there is this is where you should squirt the oil as it pushes water out if you're not careful spraying oil into the lock it's self could just work as a barrier and stop the water from the escaping.

Thank you - I've sprayed WD40 into both the holes in the lock. Couldn't be bothered going to try it again in the dark and the cold tonight. Will try in the morning if I have time. I have proved I had the right keys though. DP kept saying they weren't the right ones.
