I've been bleeding everyday since the 6th December.

I am not a period troll I promise but I am at the end of my tether with the constant bleeding.

My period arrived on 6th December and was 2 weeks late. Since then it just hasn't stopped. I saw my GP after two weeks and he gave me Northisterone which did work but as soon as I had to stop them the bleeding restarted.

I saw my GP again last week and he prescribed Cerelle. So far this has had absolutely no affect. Blood tests show my hormone levels to be well within normal limits but I am anaemic and now take iron tablets.

I am regularly flooding through tampons and a pad and I can't go on like this. I feel shattered and shaky and the bleeding just won't let up. I'm having to get up twice a night to change sanitary products and the whole situation is a bit crap.

I've had a speculum check and all looks fine ( as far as they could tell) and so the bleeding is a mystery.

Has anyone else been through this? What worked for you?

Mirena coil might work

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 19/01/2019 11:53

At this point I would want a referral to Gynae to be honest. Has that been discussed at all?

randomuserhere · 19/01/2019 11:54

How old are you and have you had a smear test?

Absolutely a gynae referral. An ultrasound and further investigation needed.
Sorry to hear this.

mooncuplanding · 19/01/2019 11:55

I've had this for 2 reasons:

  1. Ectopic pregnancy
  2. Change of diet (sugar and carb reduction) which does stuff to your hormones

There are many reasons why this happens, but the thing is, it is not normal and you must push for a resolution.

Southwest12 · 19/01/2019 11:56

I sympathise. I had a period last year that started in March and only stopped in November after the second injection of Prostap.

Gynae couldn’t investigate properly as my anatomy is very distorted due to previous pelvic surgery, so can’t be sure there isn’t something dodgy going on. The Reg actually said “well if there was it would probably be big enough to see”, that was after admitting the scope could only see half my uterus..

Their only suggestion was 6 months of Prostap to induce the menopause with add back HRT, and then reassess.

I was lucky and my GP did a referral to gynae as soon as I asked her to, she’s pretty put off by my complicated surgical history so was happy to pass me on rather than try anything first.

My HB dropped to 80, 8 in old money, and I was just lucky that my surgical team picked it up and dealt with it as gynae (different hospital) never checked. I had 4 iron infusions and that, plus the bleeding finally stopping, means it’s back to normal.

andantecantabile · 19/01/2019 12:02

I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions but I just wanted to say that when I was prescribed Cerelle I bled constantly on it, so whilst it's not the cause of the issue it could be aggravating it.

BloomsButtons · 19/01/2019 12:04

I'm 43 and my smear tests are up to date.

My GP has said I might need a referral but there's a few things to try before then. The nurse said woman don't need to put up with it and to keep making a noise until it's sorted Grin.

It's really wearing me down now. I have a full on job and am constantly alert for leakages as getting to the loo don't all that easy.

I was out the other night and bled through through my jeans, not a good look!

Gynae referral asap, it’s intolerable that this would be allowed to go in that long, especially as you are now anaemia etc. Get back to your GP and get assertive. Good luck x

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 19/01/2019 12:06

I’d take the referral if I was you. Unexplained bleeding is probably nothing to worry about but it definitely needs investigating.
Good luck

I've had very similar for the last year. I am 27. I have seen 2 female GP doctors and both were dismissive, one was downright rude and even rolled her eyes.
I've had swabs, pills, offers for a coil ( hell no) but they have so far refused to take it further because it's "normal".
I was finally diagnosed with PCOS and they pretty much washed their hands of me.
It got so bad one night that I went to A&E and was met with a brilliant ( male, foreign middle aged) doctor who took me seriously, listened carefully to me, offered me support and wrote a leter to my GP to complain about my treatment.

However, nothing ever came of it and I got sick of fighting for my right to be taken seriously.

My advice, go private and get answers.

Rant over 😂

BloomsButtons · 19/01/2019 12:17

Thankfully my male GP has been very understanding. My nearest private hospital/doctor is 200 miles away so will try to avoid having to go down that route.

I just feel like my life revolves around dealing with bleeding and feeling wiped out.

I think you are probably going to end up needing a pelvic ultrasound and/or a referral to a gynaecologist.

Hotterthanahotthing · 19/01/2019 12:34

Insist on a scan as you have tried this way.Stay sitting in the Drs surgery until he gives in.I had this but when I had to be signed off work because bleeding was so heavy my GP booked me a scan and a follow up appointment for the day after I had it.Niw referred to gynaecologist in Feb.If you need to sit there and bleed on his chair( happened to me accidentally).

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 19/01/2019 12:39

You need a scan. There is no reason you shouldnt have been referred at this point.

I see your nearest private is quite some way away but could you do it if they wait is going to be long on the nhs? A scan and an appt with a gynaecologist will be around the £150-200 mark in my experience.

Bobobobobob · 19/01/2019 12:53

I've been bleeding since October. Just had a biopsy on the lining of my womb as its thicker than it should be. They have recommended the coil or ablation. So I'm going to give the coil a try. Hope you get sorted soon. It's blummin awful.

ohdearmymistake · 19/01/2019 12:55

I had something similar, I turned 40 had a normal period that month then didn't stop for 12 months.

The GP was a bit useless, the conversation always went;

Do you bleed after sex
No I bleed all the time
We'll send you for a blood test.

In the end I paid to see a gynaecologist who gave me Northisterone which stopped the bleeding long enough to have an internal scan.

They decided I have PCOS, been left to deal with it on my own.

LaurelAndMardy · 19/01/2019 12:58

This sounds awful OP. I’m glad the nurse said that, you are right not to just put up with this.

BloomsButtons · 19/01/2019 13:38

@ohdearmymistake that sounds horrendous!

I've made an appointment to see my GP in 10 days time. At least I can then say I've given the Cerelle a decent amount of time to take hold.

BloomsButtons

It wasn't much fun I have to admit, good luck with the GP (at least your sounds good) hope they refer you and it gets sorted.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 19/01/2019 14:35

That sounds awful. In practical terms, would you be willing to try a mooncup? They hold more than a tampon so you can go longer between trips to the loo.

Has the doctors suggested tranexamic acid (tablets)? They are used to reduce heavy bleeding (or to reduce pain which is what I take them for).

Like others I'm surprised you've not already been referred for an ultrasound scan.
