Brexit Decision Faffing Question

Just looking for more politically intelligent person than I to help me understand something. Why can’t the government give us more of an idea on the most likely outcome so we can get organised? Is it just essentially a game of who blinks first so they are leaving it to the wire? Get on and extend the article 50 or say we are going No Deal or call another ref but DO something. TIA

Because there are too many moving parts and vested interests.

May can’t admit there will be no deal, as it would tear the Tories in two.

Corbyn cannot go for a People’s vote, as it would tear the Labour Party in two.

The EU can’t remove the backstop because it has to support Ireland and doing otherwise would undermine the European project.

Any cannot tell the Tories to accept the backstop because (1) it would again tear up the party and (2) she’d never get the deAl through anyway because the DUP won’t vote for it.

Corbyn wants a Norway style deal, but while that is ‘leave’ it is both (1) not something Norway wants and (2) would not stop free movement. It would also prevent the UK ‘going off and making its own trade deals’ a la Boris and Fox.

There’s more, but essentially it’s a complete s**tshow and no matter what happens not there will be mega repercussions.

So yes. It’s like a big game of chicken, knowing that if no one blinks the result no deal.

Pretty much what Salryc said.

I've started putting by extra food as the risks of supply problems after a no deal brexit are high enough that I need to protect my family from the risks.

Agree, it is all about in-fighting and the survival of the two main parties. Nobody is being honest. Things were promised that were not achievable.

Someone needs to stand up and say, you can have Brexit but it's a choice between "independence" and prosperity. The achievable Brexits are : May's deal - no FOM, trade deals with other countries possible but negative effects on the economy and still subject to a lot of EU regulations; CU+SM (if the EU agree) - fewer economic consequences but FOM and still subject to EU regulation.

Nobody at the top of the Conservative or Labour Parties will stand up and say this though because they know it will lose them votes.

Thank you I knew there were so many different strands of division but had not realised just how they stop all of the options from gaining the majority. Blimey.
