Thinking of a random trip to Bristol with a friend
What are the best things to do there? Thanks

The boat does not go to Clifton village - Clifton is high up on the hill by the gorge, where the Suspension Bridge goes across. You can get a number 8 bus up to Clifton from College Green (the green space in front of the cathedral, city hall and Marriott Royal hotel).

I really recommend the ice cream shop called Swoon. (Yes I know it's January, still worth it!)

Also there are lovely restaurants in Clifton but you may need to book-they get very busy on a Saturday sometimes.

I love Bristol, it's s fantastic place for a weekend, but I can see how people might miss the nice bits-you have to walk away from where you think the centre is sometimes!

Don’t be tempted by the steak restaurant in the Marriott. It’s awful!

Swoon is great any time of year.

If you want interesting food, try the new Wapping Wharf area on the south side of the harbour, between M Shed and the SS Great Britain. Lots of interesting cafes and restaurants, lots of them in converted shipping containers. Great place to hang out on a sunny day. Some of the more upmarket ones (e.g. Box E) get very booked up, though.

St Nicholas market (off Corn Street) is also good for lunchtime street food and general mooching around interesting stalls.

We’ll definitely go to Swoon !👍

I've just moved from London to Bristol and I absolutely love it here. I've been here for weekends in the past too and it's just great!

Definitely book for dinner as soon as you can. Popular restaurants get booked up well in advance.

We loved Bristol. It’s small enough to be able to walk everywhere and there's plenty to take in. There’s no centre as such, which may be a bit disorienting. Some places still quite run down but relaxed and friendly overall. Curious accent.

Bath is far more interesting and attractive a city than Bristol
