Handheld cordless vacuum recs?

Hi,

I am looking to get a handheld cordless vacuum to do in between big cleans. Just wondered who has what and if you have recommendations. The latest Dyson one is mega by is and way more than I would like to spend.

We have a decent sized house and lots of hard floor if helpful. No pets but children!

Is chargeable better?

It's a lot of money so don't want to get the wrong one. Thanks!

Sorry, that was meant to say mega bucks. I must not post on my phone.

We bought a GeoTech and it was awful!!! We have rugs and all hard floors on the ground floor and carpets upstairs. Wooden stairs. The Geo Tech just pushed the dust around and was useless on the rugs. Worse than useless. They took it back after we sent them photos of the “piles” of dust it wouldn’t pick up and form into a compressed block. Avoid!

We just use our standard Miele now. We have a Dyson hand held for emergencies. The Miele is still the best machine and the full size plug ins are not worth it. I would save your money or get a Hand held. At least it works!

A friend has a Dyson and that does work. I guess you have to pay that price to ensure a good product. It’s not worth having two vacs though they do the same job!

We have the Bosch Animal one and I like it. It's quiet and the battery lasts well. We do have large hairy dog and a multi level [old] house which has no plug sockets on any of the multiple landings so cordless (and quite light weight) is a must for us.

It's also much cheaper than the Dyson.

I find that I can do all of the ground and lower ground floors (the dog zones!) on turbo (level 3). I then empty the container and charge it again for an hour and can comfortably do the rest of the house on level 2. For context our house is approx. 190 metres sq.

HTH

We have that Dyson one (V10) but it is awesome. We actually argue over who gets to use it and sweep crumbs off the dining table just for an excuse to get it out!!

PickleSarnie · 18/01/2019 09:13

We have the Dyson V10. Yes it's expensive but it's bloody awesome!!

Our regular corded vacuum is now gathering dust (as opposed to sucking dust) in the garage.

ItsHardToExplain · 18/01/2019 09:16

I got this one www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07FSNVHZZ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title&tag=mumsnetforum-21 it works well and it’s so cheap compared to the dyson. I use it for the car and for a quick hoover not a housework hoover Smile

Brittanyspears · 18/01/2019 09:25

Geotech went back as just spat dirt back out. Got a cheap vax which took up most dirt but can’t compare to our dyson. Buy cheap buy twice as they say.

Justbackfromnewwine · 18/01/2019 09:28

I think to an extent you get what you pay for.
I went for a vax initially and it was awful.

Now we have a shark duo clean cordless and it’s bripliant. 2 batteries so one can be charging all the time though I rarely use a whole battery in one go if you see what I mean.
It’s a stick cordless but removable handheld bit with attachments.
Plug in charger for just the battery so you don’t need to wall mount like a dyson

IsobelKarev · 18/01/2019 09:29

I have the Dyson V8 which is a lot cheaper than the V10. I love it! I got the version with the hardwood floor head because all downstairs is laminate flooring.

Wingbing · 18/01/2019 09:36

You get what you pay for I think.

We splashed out on a v10 and it is amazing.

YogaDrone · 18/01/2019 09:39

I've had two Dyson's over the years (corded) and the first, a DC10, was awesome. But it eventually died entirely and I got another Dyson which cost about £350 and was just awful. I tried buying new parts - filters etc but it was just crap so I binned it within a couple of years (and I hate wasting money like that). I won't spend a fortune on a Dyson again.

lostmywayrightnow · 18/01/2019 09:39

Thanks. Really sounds like the dyson is worth it. Will ponder further.

Apart from the last post, bad timing.

I have the dyson v8 and it’s replaced my dyson ball corded. It’s great I mainly have carpet but mum has it on mainly hard floors both of us have a large fluffy dog.

christmasrobin · 18/01/2019 09:45

My grandma has a dyson animal one (don't think it's the newest version though) and it's great! I really want one but they're soooo expensive

Antiquevintageandrusty · 18/01/2019 09:50

Well, I have a Dyson V10 animal and I am not in love with it. I have a very hairy dog, fine, it deals with that.

But, the filter clogs too easily for me, for instance I put a shelf up recently, three holes, three rawlplugs. When I vacuumed the dust from the drilling off the skirting boards/edge of the carpet it clogged after the first one, meaning that I had to wash the filter and leave it to dry for hours. I had to go to the garage and get my old Dyson ball out to finish the job (I end up getting the old one out once a month).

I am not sure I would buy another one.

My parents have a shark and rate it.

kickerss · 18/01/2019 09:52

Does anyone have a shark that Mrs Hunch uses and would recommend? I know she raves abouf it but I don't believe any Instagram reviewers so has anyone here ever used one?

user1539506092 · 18/01/2019 09:53

I went in to buy the LG cordless and came out with the Dyson V8. It's great but Tbh I think the LG would have been just as good for not as much.

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 18/01/2019 09:59

Dyson v7, cost us £200 and it's perfect for what we want

lostmywayrightnow · 18/01/2019 16:08

Thank you!

I have just got a Dyson V7 motorhead, and I like it. It picks up well on hard floors - even dog hair - and on the lower setting it will do all through the downstairs on one charge.

However, it is harder to use on carpet, and doesn’t pick up as well as the upright Dyson, and it won’t pick up bigger bits - and it has a bit of a tendency to block up at the angle where things go into the collection bit.

If I want to do a big clean, or a deep one, or if I am vacuuming the carpets upstairs, I use the upright, but the V7 is good for a quick whip round downstairs every couple of days/once a week.

lostmywayrightnow · 18/01/2019 17:56

Genius pickle!
