lump in mouth

I've noticed yesterday that I have a round lump under the skin on the inside of my mouth. It's not painful but I can feel a whole round lump when I press it and it rolls when I squeeze if that makes any sense??Hmm.
Does anybody know what this could be?
I have had canker sores a few times when I was younger but it's not that.

Is it on the inside of your cheek? Then it’s an ulcer and bonjela will do the trick. If it’s on the jawline then you have an infected tooth and gum and you need to see a dentist to prescribe you antibiotics.

Please make an appointment to see your doctor or dentist ASAP. Unexpected lumps in the mouth should always be checked out

Where abouts is it? In your cheek/lip/under tongue? Does it look different on the surface? Any ulcers?
It's possibly an enlarged lymph node, or a blocked salivary gland. You could get it checked with a dentist if you haven't seen one for a while.

I've had something like that on the inside of my lower lip for years. My dentist isn't at all worried about it. Just keep an eye on it for any changes, if it gets larger etc. I sometimes bite mine and it hurts like hell for a bit Sad

fatpatsthong · 17/01/2019 19:59

There is a thing beginning with an m - can't remember exactly what it is but I have one. Dr and dentist have both confirmed and it's been there for a few years. Pretty common I believe but do get it looked at

jenelleyg · 17/01/2019 20:03

it's on the inside of my lower lip but a bit lower down than the lip. I'm not at my most articulate today sorry Confused. you can't see it at all I can just feel it. I put some bonjelal and it didn't do anything. usually if I put bomjeal on anything it's stings

Google mucocele and see if it fits the bill. Also get it checked anyway...

fatpatsthong · 17/01/2019 20:18

That's the thing pineapple! Mine doesn't hurt but also doesn't change either - I keep and eye on it

Owlish · 17/01/2019 20:23

Oh, that's what mine is! I often wondered what it was, my dentist has never said; only that it was benign.

jenelleyg · 17/01/2019 20:26

Thank you it is most likely a mucocele judging by the descriptions on Google. I will wait and see if it goes away but also book an appointment with my Dr, it usually takes about a week or 2 until I can see someone at my surgery anyway.
I do hope it's not permanent, it's not painful but a bit annoying as I can feel it when I smile etc..

See your dentist not your GP. Honestly, anything to do with mouth always dentist first. GPs aren't that well trained in mouth. Speaking from experience, me and my DH are dental and my in laws are GPs x

jenelleyg · 17/01/2019 23:46

Will do. I will give my dentist a call in the morning. Who knew a painless small bump in my mouth would cause me so much anxiety and worry. I didn't dare Google first because it would undoubtedly tell me I was going to die! It definitely fits the bill of being a mucoclele so let's hope the dentist agreed and it's harmless.

I've currently got a mucocele on my lower lip, my dentist checked it out (during a routine check up) and confirmed this is what it is. I've had mine for a couple of months, probably exacerbated by the fact I'm now habitually chewing on it Confused

It's something to do with blocked salivary glands (I think) or caused by trauma (I reckon mine started off as a mouth ulcer that I've annoyed by the chewing) he said if it changes colour or becomes problematic then he can refer me to have it lanced, otherwise it's fine to leave it.

Mine looks like a little transparent bubble under the skin, about the same size as a small pimple

@jenelleyg oh no don't worry I work in a surgery where we do about 3 biopsies a day on these it's always just better to get it checked but really don't worry xx
