The Tate Britain has Edward Burne-Jones atm, which are lovely dreamy Victorian/Pre-Raphaelite paintings.

I love to go there and then take the river bus down to the other Tate gallery which has a nice restaurant for lunch with views over the river and St Paul's.

From 2nd February the V&A has a major show about Christian Dior, which should be stunning if you like fashion, also nice places for coffee and lunch in the museum or towards South Ken Tube.
Also lots of other lovely things to look at in V&A.

Have a lovely time!

@jenthelibrarian Thank you, they are great suggestions. We went to the exhibition of Vogue Magazine covers also the Valentino event so that Dior one is right up our street.

It's very hard to recommend theatre without knowing what sort of things you and your mum like! Plays or musicals? Comedy or serious? Rum-te-tum hummable tunes or something more intricate?

The Globe Theatre has tours and so does The Royal Opera House. Both are great.
If you want a show - go on line and see what’s available! What do you like? Hamilton won’t hsve tickets! Other musicals might!

The Ashurbanipal Exhibition at the British Museum is fantastic. 5*. We like the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum too. Both can be pre booked.

The V and A always has good exhibitions. I’m looking forward to the Dior one. Not sure if the manuscripts exhibition is still on at the British Library. That was amazing!

As a pp said, what do you and your mother like? Personally, I would see Sondheim's Company at the Gielgud and Anni Albers at Tate Modern again or Burne-Jones at Tate Britain, but neither may be to your taste. The Courtauld Impressionists are at the National Gallery, and Mantegna and Bellini -- and the RA has Renzo Piano and Klimt/Schiele drawings.

Thanks all, there are great ideas here. I love the idea of those tours.

Previously we've enjoyed fashion, modern art and photographic (portraits and wildlife) exhibitions. Musicals and plays (usually with a comedy element). Film museum, transport museum. So good entertainment but I guess not particularly high brow.

It was! It's on for another month. The only thing with it was that there was so much incredible stuff to see in one go. I'd really have liked to be able to have a coffee break halfway through, absorb everything I'd seen and then go back in for the other half.

The Sun: Living With Our Star exhibition at the Science Museum is on until May & that's well worth seeing too.

You are right about needing a coffee half way through Empress! I took my 94 year old mother who has incredible staying power! At the British Library, I do recommend the cafe/restaurant at the rear of the building. It’s light and airy and is a real treat. Not expensive. The coffee shop there has no windows and feels dark!

Another area worth exploring is The Temple, (legal London, Temple Church and Middle Temple Hall) plus the Supreme Court at Westminster has tours and you can also visit the Banqueting House in Whitehall where Charles I was executed. It has a fantastic ceiling.

There’s nothing wrong with musicals and comedy! I highly recommend the theatre visits. The ROH is great and you can book lunch there too.
