Train journey recommendations please

I’m going on a long train journey myself soon - on my own! So excited to have this opportunity for a bit of peace and I love travelling by train.
However it’s about 8 hours and I don’t want to get bored, how to spin it out? It’s a given that I’ll have eaten my ‘packed lunch’ within the first hour...

Sweeties and perhaps a novel or five. Google books is good or try one of those free audible trials.

If you're travelling through nice scenery, I love to take pictures/videos through the windows (not great in the channel tunnel!!).

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 17/01/2019 15:32

People watch and update on mn obviously!!

newspaper
book(s)
magazine
phone

don't forget a pen so you can do the puzzles

8 hours by train! Where are you going?

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/01/2019 16:00

Oh god I always eat my lunch pretty much straightaway too.
I would say pack loads of snacks. Load up your kindle with Harry Potter series?

NeedADuvetDayNow · 17/01/2019 16:01

Download a whole series onto Netflix. I could easily pass several hours watching Titans at the moment but appreciate it's not to everyone's taste.

Id be wanting a mixture of books, puzzles and video, and perhaps some craft (sewing, tapestry for example) or a sketchbook/colouring book.

Minniemountain · 17/01/2019 16:55

Podcasts.

For long journeys, i treat it a bit like going on a plane. Comfortable clothes and a big scarf to put round you in case you get draughty or as makeshift pillow against the window for a snooze. Tissues in case of no loo roll.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/01/2019 16:56

Yes download a couple of films.

A book / kindle

A trashy magazine

A neck pillow for a little snooze

Chargers for the above

Don't forget your Rail Ale

Enjoy!

Mumberjack · 17/01/2019 18:48

Thanks! Books, podcasts and maybe a puzzle or two will help break up the journey. Plus some Rail Ale sounds like a plan.
I’m meeting friends at other end of country and it’s very exciting! I will feel like a mysterious and elegant traveller (until I spill my M&S sandwich and rail ale down my front)
