Does anyone know about training to be a teacher?

I know I could google when I get home, but just in case anyone knows...

Can you still go into teaching as a non graduate? In the old days I remember you could do a B.Ed which included classroom placements and be a qualified teacher at the end of 3 years. Is that still an option or is it only postgraduate training now?

There are still the B.Ed courses (I think only primary?) But you do go into teaching as a graduate as you will have completed the degree.

For Academy and FE you don’t technically need any official quals but obviously individual institutions have preferences.

You can do a degree to become a primary school teacher rather than doing a BA then a PGCE.

Bertrand, when I saw it was you I thought it was going to be a philosophical question.

Qualified teaching is a graduate level professional but of course now Gove allowed unqualified teachers into schools more easily. Sunderland uni used to do a bachelors in IT teaching but I have no idea if they still do.

“Bertrand, when I saw it was you I thought it was going to be a philosophical question.” Grin Nope-resolutely practical on this occasion!

Thank you all-it’s the B.Ed route to Primary i’m Interested in, not non qualified teaching. Glad to know it’a still a possibility.
