I'm looking at buying a highchair and want to be able to use from birth so I can have baby in the kitchen / at the table with me.

Which would you choose out if the Hauck Alpha plus & the Chicco Polly Magic?

I bought a chicco polly- we already had the ikea one but I had 2 in highchairs at once. It was a beast, so big and bulky that tiny DS2 couldn't reach the tray at his nose height. Plus immediately filthy and unclean able, took up too much room, it went straight back on ebay. In those days they didn't have the ikea cushion, I just used a (easily washable) folded towel.

When they got past baby stage we bought two tripp trapps, those were excellent for years.

Use a bouncy chair to have young baby in the kitchen and buy an Ikea night chair for when they're a bit older. They are the best high chair. Cheap and easy to clean.

I’d also recommend the ikea one! So easy to clean. The problem I found with padded seats is that the seams would get caked in food and were a bugger to clean.

Ikea all the way. So easy to clean.

Never understood why anyone would want a reclining high chair? Surely you don't want your baby to sleep in a chair?

HoustonBess · 16/01/2019 21:20

We have a 2nd hand Chicco Polly. DD is only just about big enough for it now and she's 2. When we first put her in it looked like a shrinking machine with a tiny baby in it. Also food gets stuck in the crevices and it's a pain to clean. We only use it for non-messy snacks (oatcakes etc) in the kitchen.
Honestly, just get the Ikea one. You will be cleaning it maybe 3, maybe 5 times a day. That's a lot of your life. The Ikea one is easy to wipe and it will save you hours and hours and hours of fiddly cleaning. You won't give a toss what it looks like, it's the cleaning that matters.

We had a Chicco Polly and thought it was amazing. Went through 3 kids all 2 years apart ! Easy to clean and every so often took stamps off doused in some Milton .
.like new!!! Love it and was one of best buys!

Bouncy chair then Ikea one. Save your money.

If you absolutely must then the wooden one.

The antilop legendary.

EyUpOurKid · 16/01/2019 21:30

Bouncy chair then IKEA Antilop. Ds was sat in it from about four and a bit months with the blow up cushion. He didn't start weaning for at least another couple of months but it meant he could sit at the table with us.

Yup!

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 16/01/2019 21:34

I genuinely wonder how many Antilop’s have been sold purely off the back of Mumsnet recommendations Grin

CoffeeAndCakeEssentials · 16/01/2019 21:35

IKEA antilop every time! For DS2 we bought the pillow insert because he was tiny and slipped down without it. That was machine washable, washed perfectly and dried quickly. The high chair was so easy to clean and hosed down outside after really mucky meals!

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 16/01/2019 21:37

Get the Ikea one! They don't wean until 6 months anyway.......

GroggyLegs · 16/01/2019 21:41

Don't buy the chicco!!!!
Ours cost a bloody fortune, it was SO heavy & had a million crannies for dirt.

Bouncy chair for now & a Ikea antilop for when they're sitting up gets my vote.

Ikea ikea Ikea Ikea!

And we also have a stokke Tripp trapp with the attachable reclining baby seat bit. Fantastic, wish I had that with number one.

So number one will move to the stokke now that he's not so messy and number two will move into the Ikea one as about to start weaning = mess.

Get the Ikea one!

Another Ikea fan. We bought a £100 one to begin with. Lots of lovely cushion bits, with corners to hide food in. It was big and heavy, in the way all the time, even when folded,
And it felt impossible to clean it 'properly'.

Ikea one - so much cheaper. Really easy to wipe down. Tray AND seat are dishwasher safe. Take the top draw out and shove the whole seat in to the dishwasher. By doing this, you also sterilise the whole thing, great if your child has immune vulnerabilities.

Also easy to whip the legs off and take in the car when going to stay with relatives. Cheap enough to by Grandma one too.

Get the Ikea one!

We bought ours after seeing it recommended on hereGrin

Waterdropsdown · 16/01/2019 21:55

We had Ikea ones for our twins. I get that they are easy to clean etc but I didn’t like how much of the food ended up on the child as there is a really big gap at the front.

Swapped now for Tripp traps and if I was doing again I would have got these from 6 months. Yes I know they cost way way more but IF you’ve got the budget it’s much better.

Waterdropsdown · 16/01/2019 21:56

Sorry just realised your pic is not a Tripp trap but it’s like that. In fact it looks exactly the same. Totally get the wooden one.
