I know it's painfully dull but I have to ask.
I have had iphone's for years and am now due to upgrade and am wondering whether to try something new.
If you don't have an Iphone and you LOVE your phone can you tell me what it is?
I use a fair amount of data and texts but don't make that many calls.

PurpleCrazyHorse what is the name of the app you used to move WhatsApp messages from iphone to Samsung? I also struggled with this but gave up in the end!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 16/01/2019 09:34

@1Wanda1 I will have to look it up. I was so excited and tried so many things I meant to write it down and forgot.

Will have a nosey and re-post

PurpleCrazyHorse · 16/01/2019 09:37

@1Wanda1 WazzapMigrator £5.49 on the Google Play Store.

Not sure if I needed anything else to make it work but this was the pivotal bit. I'm really pleased. The list of all the conversations were in the wrong order, but now I'm using it the recent conversations are now back at the top, but initially I had to scroll through to find them to pick up where I left of. However, based on not having them at all, this was totally fine.

Huawei are great, as are the Google ones. I've stuck with a 'budget' one recently and have Motorolas. Theyve all been great for the money, around £150-£200 new. The latest one is a bit laggy in the camera which is my only gripe.

Cutesbabasmummy · 16/01/2019 09:40

I love my Samsung S6. I'm on contract and when I upgrade in September I will be going for the newest Samsung. They are so easy to use and all my i phone friends comment on how good the camera is.

PivotPivotPivottt · 16/01/2019 09:41

Huawei P20 pro. I've always had a Samsung and recently changed to this. Just as good and cheaper too.

JaneJeffer · 16/01/2019 09:43

I had a Samsung and hated it. Got iPhone and love it!

DinosApple · 16/01/2019 09:53

Always had Motorola's and find them fab. I've also got a G5.

slappinthebass · 16/01/2019 09:55

I've had iPhones for 8 years, bar a very brief stint a few years a go where I tried a Samsung Galaxy Zoom and HATED it. Couldn't get to grips with the different way of doing things, and I think Samsung Galaxy's are considered top range androids? My ancient iPhone 6 has ridiculously small storage... think there is a bug with it too so even less. It seems to think I have storage where I don't and I've tried every trick I can find from Googling with no joy. The camera is terrible on it now too. So I've been debating for ages wether to go for another iPhone or a Google Pixel. Google Pixel has a camera to rival iphone. But I don't want to hate it like I did the Samsung. I wish you could hire phones for a month to try.

IWantMyHatBack · 16/01/2019 09:57

Pixel 2 or 3 (depending on budget)

Cherries101 · 16/01/2019 09:57

It depends what you’re using it for. Banking / transactions / payments / 3rd party banking apps then stick with the iphone as Apple have the safest security ecosystem on the planet. (i can say this with some authority).

If you don’t use it for banking / investment / payment management then Android ecosystems might be okay. Still a huge potential of hacking of static data — of these phones the latest galaxy is probably the nicest in terms of usability.

Noqont · 16/01/2019 09:58

Huawei p20 Pro. I love it. The mate is even better.

localfluff · 16/01/2019 09:59

I've gone from iPhones to a Samsung s9 and it's a good phone and I'm happy with it. Android operating system is okay, but I prefer iOS to be honest. I'm not going back to apple though as their phones are too expensive for what they are. No headphone jack now either.

HeyMacWey · 16/01/2019 10:00

I have a OnePlus 5 and love it.
Super fast. Excellent face recognition. Camera is good. Lots of memory.
I bought mine second hand on eBay and it looks like new.

1Wanda1 · 16/01/2019 10:00

Thank you PurpleCrazyHorse!

AwfulSomething · 16/01/2019 10:04

Some interesting misinformation about android security!

Anyway I have a Samsung Note 9, amazing device. So many great features but the pen I get so much use out of.

cleanhousewastedlife · 16/01/2019 15:46

If you want to choose something a bit different : ethical, would you consider a Fairphone? I'm getting one of these next - they are mendable and modular.

lucysmam · 16/01/2019 16:18

@whatswithtodaytoday , what's bloatware?

whatswithtodaytoday · 16/01/2019 16:39

It's all the extra bumph the phone comes with, usually apps you never use but take up storage space. My Samsungs always ended up very slow and full, however much I deleted photos and texts etc.

I've had my 5T a year and there's still masses of space, it's running quickly and smoothly and the battery life is fine.

glenthebattleostrich · 16/01/2019 16:41

DH has a Samsung and loves it. I have the OnePlus 6t and love that. I switched to OnePlus a couple of years ago having always had HTC or Samsung and I can't see myself going back!

My phone cost just under £500 and I use Giffgaff so can change my goody bag depending on what I have planned.

lucysmam · 16/01/2019 16:45

Oooh, like the pre-installed stuff?

You learn something new every day! I had no idea there was a name for it.

crikeycrumbsblimey · 16/01/2019 17:30

Gosh lots of people recommending Huawei Hmm

OvaHere · 16/01/2019 17:49

I've just upgraded this week to a Galaxy S9 from the S5 which I had for about 4 years, prior to that the S2 for around 3 years.

I love the Galaxy S range personally even though I also love my MacBook and having an iPhone might make more sense. I've played with my teen's iPhone and just don't gel with it the same.

We're a bit split in this house, me, DH and DS1 prefer android and the two younger teens are all about iPhone (they have the older cheaper ones).

What I generally want most out of a phone is plenty of storage and one that will last around 4 years bar any accidents. I always buy them outright rather than on contract so I want long term value from it.

camflower · 16/01/2019 18:07

Love my OnePlus 6. Won't be going back to the fruit phone!

StillMedusa · 16/01/2019 18:10

Huawei here too. Great phone!
Also Honor (a sub set of Huawei).. fraction of the cost of Iphones or Samsung but so good. I got an Honor 9 as a temp phone when I drowned my last phone and it is so good I've just stayed with it!
