E-books in PDF format - where to buy them legally

Posting here for traffic.
Going transatlantic next week so want some ebooks but cannot find anywhere that sells just common or garden PDF format. I don't want to go to a dodgy website which will install a ton of malware on my computer.

Please does anyone know somewhere I can buy PDF ebooks which aren't full of DRM? Thank in advance.

Bump since I'm sure that there are others who use e- readers. Mines a Nook for reference

I'm a newbie on ebooks so not sure what common/garden format means, but just wanted to say that I borrow my ebooks from my local library. Works perfect and trust that I won't get anything odd from them. Maybe an idea for you too.

All publishers use DRM to protect their content, you'll be hard pressed to find content that isn't protected in that way

Why does it have to be PDF?

The 'standard' format is EPUB which your Nook should be able to read. (It's just kindles that use amazon's own specific format.)

I have a Kobo and like the PP borrow ebooks (in EPUB) from my library.

For free books, try Project Gutenberg.

By the by some of the library ebooks are PDF too, I seem to remember.
