I've bought the Taylors ones to try but not yet had one. Have you tried them or a different brand? What do you think?

I buy them when we go camping, they are really good but pour the water in sloooooooowly .

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 15/01/2019 18:26

I do not like them, it's never hot enough, or strong enough, or fresh enough

but if you like tepid stale see through coffee you might.

:o

I like them. But I drink decaf, so what do I know?

Mind you are also buy those plastic things that sit on top of a cup so I know nothing !at home I have a Nespresso which I also love x

Cookmysock1 · 15/01/2019 18:36

I buy them sometimes, I put coffee mate in so its still hot xx

ceeveebee · 15/01/2019 18:36

I buy the Lyons red ones, they are much nicer than instant but not as good as filter

Cookmysock1 · 15/01/2019 18:36

Excuse the kisses, I'm still in texting mode

MadauntofA · 15/01/2019 18:37

The Lyons are nice, just be really careful when you open the sachet and squeezing the bag as they can split easily.

AbsentmindedWoman · 15/01/2019 19:09

Thanks!

Being thick here - but why are people finding them tepid? If I make coffee in the cafetiere it's kind of the same thing, no?

RagingWhoreBag · 15/01/2019 19:12

I've had them in hotels and they were fine as I recall. Certainly better than instant

I do like the little plastic filters - I take them camping with me. They can be a bit tepid as it takes a while for the water to filter through and out in the fresh air a tin mug can only hold heat for so long, but its still a little moment of extravagance in my day!

moocowmrs · 15/01/2019 19:19

@ragingWhoreBag they justcabout make camping 🏕 bearable till it’s time for Gin !

greenlanes · 15/01/2019 19:21

I agree with MsMighty - I drink Taylors Italian (cafetiere or filter) and find the equivalent bags too weak and tepid.

The plastic filters are better.

I dont like the little pots either for the same reason.

scaryteacher · 15/01/2019 19:23

The Lyons bags are OK if you want something other than instant.

GrannyHaddock · 15/01/2019 20:00

Yes, the Lyons green ones aren't bad. I make the coffee in a small metal pot, squeeze the bag gently. It needs a few minutes to brew, and then I microwave milk in the mug before pouring. I can't see it working making the whole thing in a mug: it would be cold.

MrsJamin · 15/01/2019 20:01

Sounds awful. Best, neatest and most flavoursome coffee to have is through an aeropress.

AbsentmindedWoman · 15/01/2019 20:02

So I'm drinking one now. It's ok! Brewed it for 5 mins instead of the suggested 2 but still weak - maybe I'll try leaving the bag for 7 or 8 mins next time.

A zillion times better than instant though! It tastes of actual coffee. Just very mild.

Odiepants · 15/01/2019 20:37

The green Lyons ones smell amazing but the coffee is just about ok. I leave them in for ages and squeeze them out lots. Better than instant but not as good as the smell promises.

ThanksItHasPockets · 15/01/2019 20:43

The Taylors ones which are like teabags are no good. Coffee needs to percolate, not infuse. You need the kind that you pour water through. The plastic ones make reasonable coffee but the amount of plastic waste makes them unconscionable.

The very best ones of all (as in, really, the only ones worth using) are Sainsbury’s TTD coffee bags: www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/sainsburys-fairtrade-colombian-coffee-bags-x10

You unfold them, rest them on the mug, and pour the water through. I use them to make a decent cup of coffee at work and I have never found the equivalent anywhere else. Sainsbury’s often have them on the bottom shelf and I dread them ever discontinuing them. The style is very popular in Japan and a friend of mine used to get them imported by family until she found the Sainsbury’s ones.

YouCanCallMeJodieWho · 15/01/2019 20:59

The Lyons ones are OK for making a mild 'filter' coffee. They take up far less space and create far less waste than the plastic drip through ones. They are useful in cheap hotels (the ones where you only get instant in your room) and cheap offices. I work in the public sector and most of the places I visit for work meetings have only instant coffee.

Agree the Sainsbury's ones are good but they are never in stock!

cansu · 15/01/2019 21:01

I think azera instant is better tbh

ForalltheSaints · 15/01/2019 21:39

Not since the 1970s. I think my mum still has the jug.
