Who was the first person you told

that you had a BFP on a pregnancy test?

Just a general musing/nosey thread.

DH and I have just started TTC and there has always been a running joke that he would be the second person to know I had gotten a positive result, as I would probably tell SIL (DH's brother's wife) first (to confirm what I was seeing and because we are so close)

So who did you tell first?

All three times My DH and then not that much later my Mum.
The first one he said oh fuck
The second one he said I told you so
The third he cried big fat happy tears

MsSquiz · 15/01/2019 22:08

@Wifelife that's so sweet. I'm not sure I could wait until DH finished work! I can barely keep his Christmas gifts a secret!

@Mulberry72 I hope he rang you back when it had sank in?

I don't think DH would believe me if I rang him!

My mum, then my DH.

DramaAlpaca · 15/01/2019 22:12

DH. Then nobody else until 12 weeks. It was torture keeping quiet.

donttakethebiscuit · 15/01/2019 22:12

Both times

Mulberry72 · 15/01/2019 22:17

@MsSquiz Yes he did! He rang me back after a couple of minutes and was bouncing about in his office very excited! His PA thought he was having some kind of meltdown! Grin

ChristinaMarlowe · 15/01/2019 22:18

Best friend with the first, DH with the second

ChristinaMarlowe · 15/01/2019 22:21

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 15/01/2019 23:46

Husband then my mum.

I fucked it up with mum and said “you know how you think you’re too old to be a granny” of course I meant too YOUNG but she took it in her stride anyway! Grin

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 15/01/2019 23:52

DH. We hadn't been together very long and I was a bit nervous about telling him. He made dinner (shepherds pie) and I was eating it when I blurted out that I was pregnant. Ever since, shepherds pie has been our go-to comfort food when we have big news!

CosmicComet · 15/01/2019 23:54

My urge was to phone DM. But logic kicked in and I realised I should tell DH first. Then I phoned DM immediately after Grin

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 16/01/2019 00:05

DH was the first to know with DC1, then five mins later I called my twin sister.

With DC2 I called my sister as soon as I got the positive test. I was busting to tell someone but didn’t want to tell DH over the phone!

justforareply · 16/01/2019 00:07

Woman on counter in Tesco
I bought preg test and asked where the loo was 😄 she was very happy for me

MarchInHappiness · 16/01/2019 00:27

DD - best friend / colleague - found me chucking up in the loos at work...then told ex

DS1 - husband, then DD straight away (before it slipped out from my mum / PIL) - needed to break to her gently given it would change her family dynamics hugely.

DS2- DH, then my mum (she offered me wine at dinner, then DH said I can't!).

GunpowderGelatine · 16/01/2019 00:44

After DH, my mum. With my first she cried with happiness. With my second she said "and are you happy about this?" Hmm

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 16/01/2019 00:44

DH, I had a couple of days of squinty lines on cheapo sticks (and I mean squinty, if I'd put them on here I wouldn't blame people for saying nope). Also a negative on clearblue fertility monitor (digital one you can test with too). But one morning it changed to pregnant. I didn't actually use the words I'm pregnant. More like holy shit and just showed him the monitor. He just went Shock

happypotamus · 16/01/2019 07:36

DH, then my work colleagues. My job involves exposure to x-rays and other things potentially dangerous when pregnant so you can't keep your pregnancy a secret. Some people manage it for a few weeks, but with DC1 I was allocated a patient who needed a x-ray on my first shift after I found out I was pregnant.

Slightlyjaded · 16/01/2019 11:28

A good friend I used to work with. She told me first with her first as we were sharing an office and very close. And after that it became a thing. So she phoned me before her DH with her second as it had proved a good omen first time round.

A few years later when I got my first bfp, I had to track her to a holiday cottage to tell her(no mobile reception) because even though we hadn't worked together for a couple of years, we were still friends it even if we hadn't been, it would have felt like a jinx if I hadn't told her first. She says she knew as soon as her mum told her I was trying to reach her.

Second time around for me, I called her and it went to voicemail, so I had to sit on my news for nearly 24 hours as I couldn't break the tradition of telling her first.

MsSquiz · 16/01/2019 19:41

@Slightlyjaded I love that! It's funny the things we can become almost superstitious about.

I'm an only child so don't have siblings to tell, and I lost my DM in 2017 (no DF on the scene throughout my life) so don't really have many people on my side of the family to tell anyway.
