Centre parcs Whinfell, best activities?

Off to Whinfell in a few weeks, intend to mostly cook in the lodge and make our own activities but I’d like to book a few things for the children too. Dc are 13 and 7, both boys. Eldest has asd and dislikes heights. Youngest thinks he is 17 and may find the activities for his age range (2-7) too babyish.

Can anyone recommend what’s worth the money and what’s a waste as the activities seem very expensive.

Also do they insist you stick to the age limits or are they a guideline? Could 7 year old join the 8+ activities?

Also any tips for where to eat and where to avoid at Whinfell?

Thanks

Definitely the mini land rover 4x4 driving!! So much fun! Also the pottery painting although it's expensive and the Segway and pool activities are fun too!! I love centerparcs. Those should be fine for both age groups...

We ate in most of the time but love a trip to the pancake house for a treat breakfast.

Have a lovely time

They are very strict on age limits. Don’t put your sons dob into the booking app and fib about it is the only way.
I think he would find the mini Land Rovers to babyish. My son of 5 has done a few times and he will prob be too old next time we go.
For the 7 year old I would say the go carts, the climbing wall and the go ape type thingy.
A fun family thing is the football pool table thingys.

Oh and for food I pancake house is a must and the takeaway is really good if you fancy a curry. Otherwise eat in.

Pancake house is good, sweet and savoury.
Quiz night at the Lakeside pub.
The laser fighting thing, can’t remember what they call it.
Indoor climbing wall is just like any good clip n climb place and is twice the price of others I’ve been to. So ok but a rip off!
My kids liked the treetop high thing and the adventure challenge but no good if you don’t like heights!
Raft building was great fun and my favourite.
Badminton/roller skating etc all ok.
We’ve been for four nights and each time did 2 paid for pre-booked activities and one or two that we booked when there and were cheaper eg roller skating etc.

We got pizza take away while there for winter wonderland it was crap, wouldn't recommend. The mini land rover thing will be too young for a 7 year old but the quad biking is good for older kids. My DS was 9 when he went on them so not sire how young they go but he loved it. Pottery painting is expensive, we paid for it before we went, not sure how much it was but that's just for the use of paints and the gloss they out on, the actually models to paint are extra (a lot extra). The steak slices in the hot food/bakery in the shop are really good.

This take away curry was utter shite when we ordered last month.

We came home yesterday. Sadhad a wonderful time. We just needed a few days away and to test the holiday waters with baby DD. It was fantastic.
She was to wee for anything except a swim. However the pool was fab and should fill a few hours for yours kids each day.
Pancake house was good. Takeaway was average but not great. Italian was ok.
Arcades and bowling area seemed popular. There's a disco there every night.
No water sports on until March.
The outdoor centre had segways and those looked fun.
Some of the families we were chatting to said they spent the first day just swimming and looking around. Then let the kids pick an activity each day once they had seen what they looked like.
Play parks looked great. Bikes for a family bike ride or just to get about the village.

We just did alot of wandering around. Our lodge was superb.
Best holiday we have had in ages.

We went last year. We go every year and love it. Pottery painting is great! Pancake house a must. Boat on the lake. Have a fabulous time!

All very helpful thank you! Yes eldest doesn’t like heights or water very much which limits options a bit. He would love quad biking though so I’ll book that and will definitely visit pancake house, for me more than anything 😳

Pottery painting was £15 - you get a piece to paint included and can pick others too which are charged on top of that.

Keepit · 19/01/2019 20:05

Luckily ds doesn’t mind swimming pools in small doses it’s just outside water he hates so we can make use of the pool 😊

The pool had cabanas for hire OP. Not sure if that might work as a treat for family if one doesnt like the water. Big comfy seats. View over pools and even a TV and drinks. We sat for a couple of hours by the side of the pool just with a book and a cuppa. Very very nice and warm not even in the water.

My boys loved the archery you do walking through the woods at lifelike animals.
