If you took a term time holiday

Would you expect the teacher to provide work for the child? 3 week holiday, middle of a term (near a holiday), primary school aged.

No. I think that would be selfish of the family to give the teacher e trap work to do at their convenience.

Elfinablender · 14/01/2019 18:36

No, if I took a term time holiday I'd be phoning in with a run of vague illnesses while drowning out the sound of the beach in the background. Grin

What?! No way, what a cheek!

Youmadorwhat · 14/01/2019 18:37

No

girlsyearapart · 14/01/2019 18:37

No and any parent asking is a cf
I have set work for children who are off due to longer term illness and liaised with tutors of children working on tv/ film but holidays no.

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/01/2019 18:40

Three weeks work, cheeky to even ask!! The teacher is busy enough I think. It's a long time to take off, I'm surprised you got permission. I've only ever taken my son out for 2 days and I had to jump over a lot of hoops for that (and it was very close to the end of term).

Starlight456 · 14/01/2019 18:43

Are you asking for 3 weeks work or a teacher?

DelphiniumBlue · 14/01/2019 18:44

You're asking if its reasonable for you to go on on holiday taking your child out of school while asking the teacher to do unpaid overtime so your child doesn't miss out?

ShirazSavedMySanity · 14/01/2019 19:26

Do not ask the over worked under paid teacher for additional work, they’ve got enough on their plate as it is.

StealthPolarBear · 14/01/2019 19:29

The op is a teacher I suspect

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/01/2019 19:30

No, not in a million years! I know lots of parents who would though. I think many seem to think it is the ‘right’ thing to do and even that it is helpful to the teacher Shock.

grasspigeons · 14/01/2019 19:32

No way.

cowfacemonkey · 14/01/2019 19:32

No not at all. 1) The teacher has enough to do and 2) it's a holiday, who wants to supervise school work on a holiday!

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/01/2019 19:34

No, I took my kids out for three weeks and didn’t ask for work. We just made sure they did reading and their online maths.

BitchQueen90 · 14/01/2019 19:36

No way.

I hope you are the teacher in this scenario because if not then you're a CF!

megcustard · 14/01/2019 19:38

Absolutely not.

usedtobeboss · 14/01/2019 19:44

It also implies that the input that the teacher might be giving the rest of the class is worthless! If it was as easy as 'just setting work so that they don't miss anything' it completely devalues the teacher's role.

Sirzy · 14/01/2019 19:44

Nope teachers have enough on their plates!

TonsilTits · 14/01/2019 19:45

I'm the teacher. Wanted to check my instincts were correct- looks like they were! @TooStressyForMyOwnGood I never thought of it that way, so that's a helpful insight, thank you.

OP posts:
TonsilTits · 14/01/2019 19:46

@usedtobeboss yes this crossed my mind- the implication is that the child can do the work with or without my input.

TooTightJeans · 14/01/2019 19:47

No, and school policy states we are not allowed to set work for children on holiday

Sirzy · 14/01/2019 20:09

When ds was off scjool for 3 weeks and later 4 weeks some, basic, work home and I was grateful for that!

zod1ac19 · 14/01/2019 20:11

Not for a holiday no, for long term sickness I have asked for it (4 weeks off after an operation).
