Are British and American degrees equals?

I'm curious about this. I've recently had dealings with students applying for college in the American system and it seems very different to ours.

Before college, they all strive for As and I don't think a grade of 60% is a pass in a lot of American schools. So does this mean that grades at American universities tend to be similar, are firsts more common in their colleges?

On my BA here in a UK uni, most of us got a 2.1 or a 2.2, so over 60% or 50%. It was a rare few that got a first.

Is our BA or BSc equivalent to an American Bachelors degree?

I know then they also have something called an associate's degree, not sure exactly what that is but think it may be like an ordinary level degree here.

I think you'll find a 'grade-translation' guide on the homepage of some of your universities.
I needed this once but I deleted it in december decluttering my PC.
