French films/boxsets on Netflix etc

I'm trying to help my Year 11 with French listening and I would love some recommendations for French films/boxsets on Netflix, Amazon or NowTV - probably boxsets would be best, we have tried Black Spot but it was too dark. Happy to buy a reasonably priced boxset too.

Do you know the returned? Dont know it in french as i watched it with subtitles. Was really good.

Sooverthemill · 14/01/2019 17:30

Engrenage ( called spiral in UK), spin, Les legendes de bureau, marseilles, baron noir,
Lots of these are political. They all have sex a plenty.

Look at all4 Walter presents. There are lots there too.

Sooverthemill · 14/01/2019 17:32

Call my agent is also meant to be good but haven't seen it
A very secret service is hilarious, 1960s French spies
There are sooo many good French tv shows but I'm not so sure of young adult stuff so you would need to,look on IMDb to check for warnings eg sex, violence

The problem is they all seem very dark and have adult themes. I need a teen drama!

I think call my agent is light.

Boiledeggandtoast · 14/01/2019 17:53

I don't know if it's available on Netflix etc, but La Classe is a great DVD and my DSs all enjoyed it when they were teenagers. It was released in 2008 and has a 15 certificate.

Notquiteagandt · 14/01/2019 17:54

I found the radio more useful for languages as I couldnt see body language etc to gauge what they meant. Id have it on low in the background. Was funny how much Id pick up with out trying.

The Chorus
Amelie
La Vie est une longue fleuve tranquille

Boiledeggandtoast · 14/01/2019 17:58

Sorry, I should have said the subtitled DVD is called The Class not La Classe. Here is the link to Amazon

You could try the news in simple French on RFI.

AliasGrape · 14/01/2019 18:08

Les bleus is a documentary about the Frenchman football team
The climb - about a young Senegalese/French guy who tries to climb Mount Everest

Notreallyhere2 · 14/01/2019 18:33

I watched the French version of bake off on 6play.fr a while ago.

Having a look now they seem to have lots of different shows on there, a bit like iplayer.

Thank you for all the suggestions - I had a mad idea that we would all sit down to watch a french programme/movie once a week with popcorn etc - subtitles don't work as apparently they are too distracting - probably need something very simple in terms of the storyline if they were to follow it in French.

I managed to log on to 6play.fr - and that looks promising - we'll see teens are funny buggers!

Peppa pig on YouTube. Grin

Le beaux malaises- comedy series on Netflix based around the comedian and his family/kids. On. Netflix

am not an easy man - comedy film on Netflix where a male chauvinist wakes up in alternate world where women are the dominant sex. Haven’t watched it yet, just came up as a suggestion as I watched the previous.

Call my agent is good - no sex/violence/drugs, just crazy demanding actors and their agency running around appeasing them.

purpleelk · 14/01/2019 19:41

Not sure where that random “on nefltix” came from, sorry

purpleelk · 14/01/2019 19:47

Actually, just did a search on Netflix for French comedies and this sounds perfect for a teen... West Coast

I would actually suggest watching a film or box set that the child is familiar with and changing the audio track to the French dub. If they are already familiar with the plot then they can focus more on the language.

leaveby10 · 14/01/2019 20:08

Interesting idea about the dubbing...will look into that. Good ideas purpleelk we need daft comedies - although dh and I were enjoying the crime dramas...damn it! Grin

Try Un gars une fille and especially Parents mode d'emploi, there are loads on Youtube and the format is short and snappy.

StruggsToFunc · 14/01/2019 20:28

L’auberge espagnole (English title Pot Luck) is good. It’s about a group of ERASMUS students in Barcelona from all over Europe. The dialogue is mostly French, with some Spanish and English. I’m not sure where you’d find it, however. It’s from 2002.

ForalltheSaints · 14/01/2019 20:52

You can get a box set of the Dardenne Brothers films- Deux Jours Une Nuit or La Fille Inconnue are worth watching.

Processedpea · 14/01/2019 20:56

Populaire is a nice film not sure if it's on Netflix prob youtube
