Help! My son has a red raw nipple from school uniform..

My son just changed to a new school and now has uniform. He has to wear a polo with a sewn on emblem. he came home the first day saying his nipple is sore and thought it was going to fall off. I said is it this side (and pointed to the emblem side) and he was shocked I knew which... I have put him in a vest, which is all well and good for now but he won't cope at all in the summer. He isnt a child who tolerates heat well and ideally I don't want him in a vest inside school (he already says it's warm and doesn't get how most of the kids keep their jumpers on inside). The other problem is PE. They have a t-shirt also with an rough emblem on, and again it means a vest under his pe t-shirt.. has anyone else had these problems? Or does he have super sensitive nipples? What can I do without putting a plaster on his nipple or a vest underneath? I have put the polos through the wash several times to try and soften them but with no luck..

Can you iron a patch of less irritating material in the shape of the logo onto the back of it with iron-on tape?

EssentialHummus · 14/01/2019 08:10

Surely it’s either vest or plaster? Or sew something on the other side?

Watto1 · 14/01/2019 08:10

You can get some stuff that irons on to the back of embroidery to stop it rubbing. I can't remember what it's called though. Hopefully someone more helpful will be along soon!

Can you use wonderweb to iron on some material to cover the rough patch on the inside?

butterflytrees · 14/01/2019 08:27

The only iron on thing I knew of was the iron on labels.. I shall Google wonderweb now.. thank you!!

I'd use wonderweb to iron on a patch of soft material over the back of the emblem.

Why do schools persist in doing this with uniform shirts and tops. They must be fully aware that most children never wear vests these days.

My son had this problem. Even when wearing a vest one of his nipples would often get very sore. I think it usually happened in winter. It has not happened for a while, he is 10 now. A dermatologist told me it was not unusual.

My son always wears a vest to school. He is a person who struggles with the heat, he has never worn a jumper to school but feels uncomfortable without a vest. What do runners do who have this problem? Is there a cream that helps or some kind of special plaster?

Vests can actually help you feel cooler in the summer.

Thanks everyone. I've ordered some wonderweb.. will see how it goes.

I spoke to the senco who said no one has said it (to her anyway) and she said he can just wear the plain blue (£2 Asda) polos he had on for the 2 weeks he had there before Christmas... Seeing as I've just spent £60 on school tshirts I am inclined to make those work!!!

I thought about a plaster but he is mildly allergic to elastoplast plus children would be bound to ask questions when changing for pe and swimming...

Is the thread metallic at all?
I would cut a patch of an ild cotton shirt and sew it on the back if the embroidery
The wonder web is easier but I find cotton best

VanGoghsDog · 16/01/2019 08:18

You can get special plasters for sensitive skin.
Or Vaseline will help.

Seeline · 16/01/2019 08:23

This is want you want

dancinfeet · 16/01/2019 08:43

a square of soft cotton from something like an old tee shirt, ironed into place on the inside of the tee shirt and bonded using wonderweb / hemming tape
