Hi. We would be relocating to Wolverhampton soon. My elder son will start year 10 in September. He is a bright student. Want advice for best academic school in Wolverhampton. I have seen the school ratings. Heath park and Moseley are highly rated but reviews for Heath town and Bilston not good. I am very confused. Wolverhampton grammar too expensive for us. Can anyone please guide? Also suggestions needed for primary schools for my younger one.

Have you looked at which area you'd like to live in? Personally I'd start with that.. Wolverhampton is very diverse and areas range from very posh indeed to rough as hell. Assuming you aren't mega rich, I'd be looking towards Tettenhall, Compton, Finchfield side (nice areas) and I'd avoid Bilston and Heath Town . In general most of the school reflect the population around them.

Could you manage a couple of years at The Royal School for the elder one while you find your feet there?

I was looking at Tettenhall, Penn and Compton. Do you suggest The Royal for my elder one? How is Highfields school?

Highfields is a good school, my DD goes to St Peter's and I think it's great.

St Peters (C of E nominally) is good. Highfields is Ok.. (my brother got good A levels at least!)

The Royal has a good Ofsted and one of my friends loved it there though that was a few years ago.
Tettenall is lovely especially if you can find somewhere up Tettenhall Rock or near. Compton is also pretty civilised (I grew up there in Ashfield Road. v nice) I'm not as fond of Penn myself but there are some nice houses and Warstones is a decent primary. (my Mum taught there for years!) with a decent Ofsted.
