  • are you straight?
  • what is it you enjoy about the show?
  • have you, or would you, go and see any of the contestants perform live when they tour?
  • do you ever, in person or on social media, use language commonly heard on the show? (yass queen, work, hunty, gagged, giving me life, etc etc)

Why? Are you writing an article?

Notmyrealname85 · 14/01/2019 00:53

What the hell is this questionnaire?!

We have a thread about RPDR already

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 14/01/2019 00:55

You’re clearly late to the Rpdr game if you’re only asking this now.

Just go to a show. You will see dozens of straight girls giving it “yaaaas mama” It’s no mystery.

Sorry, I should have added more info in my initial post.

I’m not late to the game, it’s just the past year or so I’ve noticed a huge spike on social media from straight friends/ acquaintances (i’m Not straight) professing their love for the show and i suppose I’ve felt confused and sometimes even bitter in some cases because I know that it doesn’t extend in to their day to day life? I see homophobic slurs and anti transgender articles etc shared by the same people. Yet they’re “feeling their fantasy” On nights out and going to see the queens perform. I wonder sometimes if they’re laughing AT the contestants, iyswim?

I’m genuinely interested - sorry if it’s coming across wrong (I am miffed at some people I know in real life! Like the gays are only worth something to them when they’re flamboyant and entertaining)

Also definitely not writing any article!

Go back to party city where you belong!! Hehe

  • are you straight? yes
  • what is it you enjoy about the show? glamour and glitter without traditional gender roles imposed on it. I love girly things but hate the expectation that these aesthetics are something only women can do / something in fact we should be bound to do. Drag mocks society’s expectations of men and women, it mocks those ideals / restrictions. Love the supportive and upbeat message a lot of the contestants promote
  • have you, or would you, go and see any of the contestants perform live when they tour? yes and loved the atmosphere, but have seen drag shows since (early!) teen years in soho so more familiar with UK drag. I look very feminine but hate the expectation to “act feminine” and always loved going to shows for that reason, no particular queen I loved
  • do you ever, in person or on social media, use language commonly heard on the show? (yass queen, work, hunty, gagged, giving me life, etc etc) no

  • are you straight? Yes
  • what is it you enjoy about the show? Everything! The people are hilarious I love the outfits! And just enjoy watching people follow their dreams.. dances singing shows all those things just entertain me lol
  • have you, or would you, go and see any of the contestants perform live when they tour? I've seen 1 really rubbish (bless him) drag performer but I'd love to see more
  • do you ever, in person or on social media, use language commonly heard on the show? (yass queen, work, hunty, gagged, giving me life, etc etc)
I am guilty of saying some phrases from the show but only around friends or family who watch also so understand what I'm saying lol

I started watching this with my mother and sister a few years ago
It was something we all did together
Now I'm engaged pregnant and live an hour and a half away from my mother and sister so I guess in a way rewatching old series makes me feel close to them again?
Either way love the whole thing! Can't wait for the next season!

WeeBeasties · 14/01/2019 01:26

I'm straight.

I enjoy the characters, the challenges, the humour. I am in awe at the talent and creativity. I appreciate drag's take on femininininity- more so new school drag that blurs the lines of gender conformity. I'm also a little here for the drama. I also enjoy the community on Reddit. I also listen to Allright Mary, Squirrel Friends, Race Chasers and some others.

I have been to drag shows, both local acts and rpdr girls. I wear wigs and outfits that i wouldn't wear anywhere else. They are always great fun and I want to support.

I think some of the parlance slips in to my daily life but in a subtle way- I'm not at work tongue popping, but I might say Haiiiii like Alaska to a friend, for example. I'm too old to get away with any Yass Queen or Okuuuurr.

GetYourJush · 14/01/2019 02:42
  • are you straight? yes
  • what is it you enjoy about the show? Absoutely everything. I have always been drawn to camp humour and glamour from as young as I can remember. I adore the passion, beauty and talent all the queens have
  • have you, or would you, go and see any of the contestants perform live when they tour? I've been out to lunch with one of the queens from the show actually lol and been her guest at a show she did. One of the best days of my life! I've been to quite a few drag events and intend to do more this year. Getting my tickets for Drag World UK again next week!
  • do you ever, in person or on social media, use language commonly heard on the show? (yass queen, work, hunty, gagged, giving me life, etc etc) All the time.
Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 14/01/2019 08:13

Dh and i have loved rupaul as a personality for decades, i love the often massive change in the contestants appearance

No

No

Disclaimer: im very much a tv programme binger, so ive watched about 6/7 series but probably wont watch anymore for quite a while

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 14/01/2019 08:14

Oh should also add im not on social media apart from mumsnet

And the only other people i know personally who watch or have watched the show are some of my children and one child's partner

So no one else in my sort of age group

RiskIt4Biscuit · 14/01/2019 09:18

I started watching it a while ago, and got my DH into it - we are both straight, and we both think it is so funny to watch - the reads, the dressing up, the challenges. It is also heartwarming (the stories told by contestants and the people who take part in the challenges, such as the militarty personnel in an older season) and generally sends a positive message about loving oneself and appreciating other people, despite their differences.
We wouldn’t go to a show or similar, but have watched some of the (terrible) films by the contestants on Netflix and so on.
We do use some of the language.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 14/01/2019 09:37

I'm straight

I like the challenges, the glamour, you see them getting ready and you see the enormous amount of work that goes into it. Some queens have shown that it's not all pageantry pretty, you can push boundaries, do drag your way.

I'd love to go, tempted to buy tickets to Werk the World but can't really afford it atm.

No I don't.

Btw, #TeamManila Grin

Rio18 · 14/01/2019 13:25

Hey kitty girl,

I'm late to the party as I've only just started watching, I'm straight and I bloody love it henny, it's just so much fun.

Bye-eeee
