Need a load of concrete breaking up and removing - what do I Google?!

Random question of the evening.
As the title says, I have a large ish area of concrete in my garden and want to get quotes for breaking it up and removing it. I don't know what to search! Not Landscape gardener, not handyman, presumably not builder, more of a...workman? Labourer? Can't seem to find anything in my area!
Thanks!

Groundworker/hard landscaper should be able to do it? Or building company?

Hen2018 · 13/01/2019 22:50

I smashed mine up myself (easy once you’ve made a hole) then people from Freecycle bagged it up and took it away.

Thanks for the replies. We don't want to do it ourselves as it is a fairly large area and life is too busy to make the time. Will maybe ring a few builders and see what they say, it just seems a small job to ask for.

I got a brick layer to do mine before laying a new path. He used a drill type thing to make the work quicker and it was all done in a couple of hours and cleared away

babydreamer1 · 14/01/2019 06:46

Groundworker. If applicable, whoever is laying your new slabbing ect should do it for you though

All you need is a labourer. Hire the cango hammer for the day, or give him the money up front for him to go to the toolhire place, and give him a days way and let him off. Are you in London? If yes, I could find someone to do it for you no problem.

Wotev · 14/01/2019 06:50

*a days wage
£100-£120 a day is good pay for a labourer. Hiring the cango would be maybe £60 (you can ring around).
If someone tries to charge you more than £180, they're taking the piss.

More replies! Thank you. Wotev that's really helpful thank you. Sadly I am in Hampshire, nearish Portsmouth otherwise I'd definitely take you up on your offer!

It's likely, if you drop into your local tool hire place, they'll have business cards or contacts for lads looking for work. Or send a man if you feel too out of place lol.

Wotev · 14/01/2019 08:12

There's a FB page I'm on that always has guys looking for work in London at that sort of craic crack so it would be easy to find someone in London for you. Hampshire I have no idea about though.

Wotev · 14/01/2019 08:13

But definitely, your best bet, is go into local tool-hire joint, dressed to the nines, cleavage on show and do your best 'I'm a silly woman' impression. You'll have mansplainers telling you exactly what you need and who'll do it for you in about 2 minutes. Grin

Oh also, you'll need to factor in the cost of a skip. Hadn't thought of that!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 14/01/2019 08:37

To find out how many skips you need, the weight of concrete is area in square metres X 0.15 (or whatever the depth is) X 2.5 tonnes. Standard skip can take 9 tonnes.
