It's fewer - something like 6 weeks, but it needs 75% of MPs to vote for it or a vote of no confidence in the government. The 2017 General Election was announced by the PM on 18th April to be held on 8th June, agreed by MPs and took place on 8th June.

Otherwise, a GE takes place every five years on the first Thursday in May.

I don't know if there will be General Election - if the Labour party call for one via a vote of no confidence in the government they could get it as the Tories don't have a parliamentary majority, but it would be political suicide for Corbyn as he is unelectable imo and the Labour party need to wake up and smell the coffee.

5 weeks (Fixed-Term Parliaments Act 2015). It's all statutory now. But in practice a bit longer, as they have to allow a few sitting days before dissolution for the wash-up of all the business in progress.
