Would you judge me for this?

My son gets higher rate mobility allowance and lower care allowance. My dh is looking for a new car and we could use the mobility element to lease a car. It would be used to get ds too and from school, to appointments but also for every day life. I get a car through work and we use this fir family holidays, currently we use some of the allowance to pay for treatment for my son and we would continue this. Would you judge me if you knew I was using his mobility allowance to get a car?

No judgment here. But just dont tell anyone your using motobility allowance, it's no-ones business.

Stompythedinosaur · 13/01/2019 17:44

That sounds like a very reasonable use of mobility allowance. A car will allow him to be mobile!

ILoveChristmasLights · 13/01/2019 17:45

No

Not one bit.

As long as DS’s needs are met I wouldn’t care what you spent on anything. I’d only judge if parents did this then their child couldn’t access school, treatment, clubs etc because they had no transport to them.

I thought this was a thing anyway, with the Motability scheme?

ILoveMaxiBondi · 13/01/2019 17:46

I thought that’s what the mobility allowance was for!

Littlechocola · 13/01/2019 17:47

I don’t understand why anyone would judge unless you have missed a massive chunk of information?

MargotLovedTom1 · 13/01/2019 17:47

Motobility, rather.

jessstan2 · 13/01/2019 17:48

I wouldn't dream of judging you for that, it sounds like a very sensible idea but don't discuss it with anyone (apart from here), it's strictly your business.

5FullFathoms · 13/01/2019 17:49
  1. Nobody will know how you find your new car unless you choose to tell them.
  2. Isn’t the point of motobility to get a car to make things easier for the person with disabilities and their careers? Am I missing something?
MrsTommyBanks · 13/01/2019 17:51

Not at all. I had a mobility car for my son when he was at primary school until he was 13.
It changed his life.

Angelinthenight · 13/01/2019 17:51

No ,we have a disabled child so i know how hard it is,we dont have a normal life & our poor child will struggle through life. Dont feel that people will judge u x

EnidButton · 13/01/2019 17:52

No, crack on.

I wouldn't tell anyone who didn't need to know. People can be absolute dicks and who needs that when you've enough on already. Fuck em. You do what's best for you and your family.

Romanmonkey · 13/01/2019 17:53

Why shouldn’t you?

AnyFucker · 13/01/2019 17:54

Huh ?

If he qualifies for the allowance then using it to fund a family car (or cars) is exactly what you should use it for

It improves family life for all of you and you are entitled to it

Dodie66 · 13/01/2019 17:58

I thought that’s what the mobility allowance was for. My hubby had mobility allowance and got a car. Why should it be any different for your son. It’s for his benefit
