Hello, I'm moving house at the end of the month to somewhere with no gas, it has little electric heater things on the walls not sure if the are storage heaters or not? I don't really know anything about electric heating.

It is a two bed property. Anyone have similar heating? How much is your electricity bill please?

I lived in an apartment once with old storage heaters. They were really expensive to run. They turn on at night to heat up the bricks or whatever is in them. Then heat is blasted out during the day.

I use to come home from work open the door and be hit with a wave of hot air. I don't personally like living in a hothouse but my housemate insisted on having them on as they were a cold creature. I had to move out over it. Sitting around in shorts and a vest top in December and was still too hot.

I personally wouldn't move into a place that had them again. If they are newer ones they might be more efficient. We got hit with a €650 bill for a two month period at one point. That could have been due to being underestimated for a time but our electricity bills were very high.

Could you ask to see previous bills if you are renting?

I'm renting but the house hasn't been rented before it's a newish build 2012 so they aren't really old. I factored in £100pm to cover them as I know it's more expensive than gas, hoping that will be enough 😕

I have electric heaters (not storage heaters) in a 2 bed property and I pay 90/mth DD which seems to cover it with a bit extra leftover. I have looked into changing suppliers but couldn't get it much cheaper.

We only have electricity in our flat and to be honest, we use the heaters as little as possible as they’re so expensive. We generally just use blankets when sitting on the sofa and have a heavier duvet on the bed during winter. Thankfully it’s not a draughty flat so it’s not much of a hardship, and we will put the heater on for half an hour if it’s a really cold day, which keeps the living room warm all evening.

We pay around £120 per quarter.

Scratch that. This thread reminded me to submit a meter reading and the DD has been recalculated at 113/mth!! Ouch.

Bear in mind that this place isn't particularly energy efficient due to no cavity insulation or indeed any cavities to insulate so your bills may well be cheaper.

We're all electric, went from white meter then I stalled a wet system but in the power company refuses to change our meter to anything other than day/night so it's fairly expensive to run. We budget for £100 per month but in reality summer months are a little cheaper while winter months tend to be double, sometimes more. We don't have it on that often. Half an hour in the morning before getting up, an hour in the evening before getting in then another half hour at night before bed, same for hot water. Occasionally we need to boost it if it's really cold. Would love normal heating/hot water and not have to worry about using it!

We have an electric only house. Our heating bills are astronomical, it's one of the reasons we can't have wait to sell and move!

I live in a 2 bed ground floor flat with large glass doors, fairly new building though and has double glazing. 2 large storage heaters. The storage heater in the lounge heats up over night and we leave the doors open to heat up the house.

In summer months the electricity, including heating all hot water, washing machine on every day, fridge and cooker etc costs £50 per month.

Currently in winter months it's costing £120 per month. Slightly less sometimes. We budget £30 per week. Over the summer I was putting on £20 which lasted between 10-14 days.

2 bed flat. All electric. No drafts and the heating hardly ever goes on. I pay £110 per month
