Discomfort with coil. Is this ok?

Lovely subject for first thing on a Sunday. Morning!

Had a copper coil fitted two cycles ago. Yesterday evening I started with period-type pains - not as bad as when I’m on, just enough to be noticed and to be irritating. Slept fine but it’s still the same this morning, if anything more to one side. I think I had some minor spotting two days ago but it was after DTD so didn’t really pay any attention. This morning I can’t seem to feel the coil strings.

I’ve got a routine check up on it next week - can I just monitor and leave it til then?

I don't want to alarm you, but there's a risk (albeit it very small) of ectopic pregnancy with coils. It might be worth taking a pregnancy test just to rule it out. The side pain is what worries me.

Thanks for the reply. Typically it seems to have subsided a bit so wonder if it’s just still settling in because they said it could be problematic for 3-6 months... have got a leftover test at home so might get it out if it really seems to kick off.

I'm glad the pain has lessened. If it gets worse again, I'd go to a walk in centre and also take a test, to rule pregnancy out.

I think it's normal at first, but not being able to find the strings needs checking. I'd ring the surgery on Monday for advice on if you can wait until your appt.

I had my coil out after 2 years because it never settled and the cramps were affecting both our sex life and my normal life.

Most people I know who had one had cramps which abated over 2-3 months after fitting.

Thanks, both. Good to hear it should be normal! I’ll call the surgery tomorrow.
