Hamilton and kids

For those of you who have seen Hamilton, how suitable do you think it is for kids?

I have 2 ds, who will be 10 and (3 weeks shy of) 8 when I'm thinking about going. I know the official line from the show is that they recommend it for 10+ and that under 4s won't be permitted in the theatre.

Is it likely to just go over their heads and they'll be bored? I know there's some cursing and innuendo.

I think it would be long for an under 10.

NicoleNoPants · 12/01/2019 21:05

I think they would find it boring. The set and costumes are a bit muted.

MemoriesOfAnotherFuture · 12/01/2019 21:08

Sorry I think a) it isn’t really appropriate for them and b) they wouldn’t particularly enjoy it. You will though! And lots of others shows the kids will enjoy.

I’m taking my 10 year old in April along with her sisters aged 13 and 15. I’ve gone for a matinee so they won’t be too tired and can decompress afterwards before bed.

All of us are listening to it constantly so the smallest knows how long it is and we have found anything we can on YouTube so she knows what to expect visually.

For me I couldn’t leave her at home whilst I took her sisters knowing how much she loves it.

Grand. Give it a miss then probably.

What is better then, lion king or Aladdin? Any other suggestions? They've seen matilda and I have tickets already for the cursed child.

Wicked would be good. It's amazing I went with dd 11

NeverTalksToStrangers · 12/01/2019 21:37

violet Not sure about wicked actually (partly because myself and dh have already seen it 😁). I actually didn't LOVE it and I was expecting to. Matilda was much better. And I'm not sure my boys would 'get' it.

We haven't seen lion king or Aladdin. I see Joseph and Mary poppins are coming back too.. hmmm

My 9 year old has been obsessed with it for two years and would LOVE to go. But that's sitting through the sound track on long journeys and knows every word now lol.

Dd says Aladdin is not great tbh. How about The Play that Goes Wrong , or a derivative. School of Rock might appeal.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 12/01/2019 21:42

I don't love the school of rock movie, but they liked it...

I had heard that about Aladdin... friend went to see it and said Jasmine was terrible. Confused

Looked up that play that goes wrong. Looks good. They'd find that funny. I might consider it but as cursed child isn't a musical I'd probably prefer to see something with songs. Is 3 shows (technically 4 as cursed child in 2 parts) in a week too much?

Expensive maybe but not too much - I love the theatre!

I thought Lion King was absolute magic when I first saw it.
