Can I make random dishes into soup?

I've got loads of half portions of things in the freezer. Can I just boil it all up together, blend it and have it as soup? Or maybe boil one at a time with some stock?

Root veg mash, beef mince and vegetable stir fry, Thai green chicken curry, can't remember what else. I need the freezer space, but I don't want to wreak my diet by having each thing with carbs as I'd intended when I froze it.

I'm not a natural cook, as is probably obvious from the question Confused!

Why do you have to eat them with carbs?
The curry you could have on it’s own or I think cauli rice?
Root veg mash, have it with some meat?
Veg stir fry doesn’t need rice or noodles, each in some meat and sauce. Done

Hmm yes maybe I just need to use them all as side dishes for other evening meals. I'll try planning next week's meals around what's there.

I think you might be better off combining two at a time. Use minced beef with root veg mash topping for cottage pie. If the stir fry veg isn’t already in a sauce could work with the Thai green curry.

I don't think blending it all together is gonna be the way to go. Read your list again, you wouldn't want them on the same plate together let alone blended!

And aren't you just making the issue worse, with gallons of possibly disastrous soup instead.

I second the other suggestions. Pair them off, possibly into soups if you wish but in soups that make sense. So root veg mash soup.

Also if they're half portions. I assume there is not enough for everyone in your house to eat the same. If you're desperate to get rid of them and they're leftovers, can you have a random dinner night and everyone have something different, with a big bowl of salad and stuff for everyone to share.

Alternatively bulk them back up to full portion, so if you have chilli in there, add a tin of beans (like kidney beans not baked beans) and chopped tomatoes with some extra spices.

Thank you, all of the above makes much more sense!

The reason it happens is that I often cook for just me and my 3 year old, so I need one and a half portions but it's difficult not to make two (e.g. there are 2 chicken breasts in a pack). So I freeze half a portion at a time.

I could really do with a bigger freezer so I'd end up with two halves of the same thing next time I cooked it. My counter top one doesn't really have space for peas, prawns etc plus a couple of batch cooks plus all these random half portions.

So if it's half portions for your 3yo, why not just serve them to your 3yo and you have something different?

If I had something different he'd want the same as me. I might try giving him one for lunch tomorrow though, and eat toast myself later.
