Can anyone please tell me about being a physiotherapist?

Hello,

I am currently a healthcare assistant and am looking at what career to go into. I think physiotherapy looks really interesting but I would like some advice please. 😊 I’ve also been thinking about radiography so really not sure!
Do you think physiotherapy is a good career? Was it hard to get into? What are the hours like?
Thank you so much

DC is a physio. Is on a ward In a hospital and has also worked in the community. Hours on the ward are 8-4.30 but can be later depending on workload. community hours much the same but more travelling in your own car.
They have a few nights a month when they are 'on call' and get called to the hospital at any time. Last week was 4am, then still expected to start work at 8am
They love it tho, work seems quite varied and have made lots of friends. Also gone up a pay grade after 3 years.

Hi Jools
Thank you for your reply. It does sounds really good. Well done to your DC! 😃 I never knew they did some nights though!

I guess the night call outs depend on what type of ward. They are currently working on 'neuro' but they all take turns for call outs so might get called out for someone who is on a ventilator and needs chest physio to get rid of secretions (not sure of correct term!)

Physio is now a very competitive course with top universities nearly on par with medicine entry requirements. I also remember my DD looking into it and on the prospectus it said that students were required to strip down to their underwear for training, which put her off a bit.
I don't know much about radiography other than there is a shortage therefore you can almost be guaranteed a job. I do know quite a few physics and they all are in private practice now making good money.

DC never stripped down to their underwear! never heard of that! It took her a year to find a job. It is apparently harder to get in to now but I can't comment on that. DC is almost 30 so been qualified for a few years now.
