Nut milks - are they actually healthy?

Confused by the huge range of nut milks available these days. We're not veggie/vegan so don't need to drink nut milk instead of cows' but I was wondering about the health benefits.

I read something that says most nut milks contain very little of the actual nut and are mainly just water, is that right?

Assuming no allergies or intolerances, what's better in terms of protein and nutrients - cows or nut milk?

I’m vegetarian and have dabbled with soy milk a few times. Thought I’d give oat a go....went for an unsweetened variety with the same calorie content as semi skimmed milk.

Bleugh. On cereal it tastes like watery porridge (which I guess is what it is) and in coffee it tastes like a slug of vegetable oil. And it’s so expensive.

InvisibleToEveryone - assuming that the allergy is only to peanuts and not any other nuts, Almond Milk is what my daughter drinks.

She is allergic to cows milk, soya and peanuts. She does sometimes have coconut milk or oat, but almond is her usual substitute for in coffee and on cereal etc.

Hi, worth looking at oat-milk options. I've had to cut down my dairy intake and was really spun-around by the alternative options including those which have a heavy environmental impact (rainforests being cut down). Have settled on oat-milk as it can be produced locally rather than being shipped and it as good as any of the others I've tried.

That BBC article is interesting. According to that, dairy milk is worse for carbon emissions and water use than nut milks. I use whichever non dairy milk is on offer for tea, coffee and porridge. Did make my own almond milk but it curdled in drinks whereas the bought one doesn't.
